“Although it was one of the top private institutes in the country, JSS Noida has witnessed its decline in reputation due to its outdated, inconsistent teaching quality, facilities and placement opportunities. Yet, it is still one of the best for specific disciplines.”

Located in the heart of the city's industrial area, JSS Academy of Technical Education, Noida, is among the top private Engineering colleges in the state. However, according to the students' reviews on online platforms, the institute's reputation has declined over the last couple of years due to its outdated course curriculum and lack of good placement opportunities available to the students. 

The past and present students of the institute have mentioned on online platforms that they have gained no valuable knowledge or skills from here that help them excel in their desired fields. With subpar professors, strict rules and regulations, and a lack of proper facilities, the institute is not a good option for those pursuing their education and successful careers in the Technical fields. 

Nevertheless, some departments at the institute have retained their reputation with a well-structured course curriculum and decent placement offers. However, it is not an ideal institute for those planning to pursue core branches, as few placement opportunities are available in these fields.

Subpar Academic Courses

The institute has received a mixed bag of responses from its students on the academic front. While some students have said that it is better than the other institutes in the state, different students have mentioned on online platforms that the education provided by the institute is not up to the mark. 

However, based on the majority of the students, the institute offers decent academic opportunities for some branches in the field of engineering, especially for Computer Science and Electronics and Communication Engineering disciplines. 

The institute offers multiple programs at the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. Though it has a decent academic environment, it is not recommended for pursuing core branches. Some of the significant concerns the students raised included the programs' outdated curriculum, the overall teaching quality and placement opportunities available in these branches. 

While the institute primarily focuses on Engineering programs, it also offers postgraduate programs in Management. Some of the top courses offered by the institute are as follows:

In addition to the bachelor's and master's programs mentioned above, the institute also offers research programs (PhD) in different fields, such as Physics, Chemistry, branches of Engineering, Management and Business Administration. 

Though there are some concerns regarding the academic scenario at the institute, it is still better than that of the other private universities in the country. It has been ranked among the top institutes several times. The institute management strives to rectify the academic and career-building challenges raised by the students by taking the necessary steps.

Course Fee Structure

The course fee structure at the institute is comparatively lower than most private institutes in the country. In addition to being affordable, the institute also offers multiple scholarships and financial aid options to ensure students from diverse backgrounds have the opportunity to pursue higher education at a reputed college.

The course fees for the institute's different programs vary depending on the course type, duration and specialisation. Based on the previous year's fee structure, the average course fees for the primary programs, like B.Tech, M.Tech, MBA, and MCA, are INR 4,51,400, INR 2,25,658, INR 2,25,698 and INR 3,38,541.

Strict Attendance Requirements

The institute has strict rules and regulations regarding the attendance of the students. According to its laws, students must maintain a minimum attendance of 75% in all the theoretical and practical sessions across all the subjects. Failing to meet the minimum attendance requirement will result in the students being unable to appear for the final examination.

Not Excellent But Decent Faculty

According to students' reviews on the online forums, the professors at the institute are not as good as the other private institutes in the country. While there are some exceptions, most professors only focus on completing their syllabus and expect the students to obtain good grades. They lack in offering additional information or training students with the required skills to excel in the professional fields.

As mentioned earlier, the course curriculum mainly consists of topics and concepts related to theory, and not enough practical knowledge is acquired by the students. Except for a few professors in different departments, the faculty members are not interested in including relevant information or providing real-world applications. This becomes an issue for the students to find successful career opportunities. 

While some professors are easily approachable and employ innovative teaching methods, the senior professors use traditional methods, which may be less effective. Overall, the quality of the professors at the institute is just above average. The professors in specific departments, like Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Information Technology, are considered the best.

Mediocre Infrastructure

Compared to the other private institutions in the country, the institute has a mediocre infrastructure. However, students have mentioned that it has a green campus with decently equipped laboratories. Yet, it has a mix of modern and outdated facilities. The institute has a decent infrastructure, adequate facilities, and an excellent academic environment.

Though the classrooms are generally spacious and accommodate many students, the facilities are inconsistent. Some classrooms are well-equipped with audio-visual aids, like projectors, whiteboards, etc., and air-conditioning, while some are old and require modernisation.

Most laboratories at the institute have the necessary equipment and modern facilities that enable an excellent practical learning environment. However, some laboratories have outdated facilities that do not provide the essential equipment required for updated practical experiences.

The institute's library and information centre houses vast collections of books, journals, theses, research papers and other resources related to different fields. It also has extensive electronic resources, such as e-books, e-journals and online databases, which can be accessed using the computer systems available within the library. It is spacious and has a seating capacity of more than 300 students. Except for the working hours limitations, students are generally satisfied with the facilities available in the library.

The institute's infrastructure includes multiple facilities for indoor and outdoor sports. The institute has a dedicated Physical Education department responsible for maintaining the sports facilities available on campus. The facilities available at the institute include grounds and courts for different sports, like cricket, football, basketball, volleyball and athletics.

The indoor facilities include badminton and table tennis courts, boards for carroms and chess, etc. The institute also has a well-equipped fitness centre to ensure students maintain their physical health alongside their courses.

The canteen/cafeteria at the institute is a separate building within the campus where various food and beverages are available at affordable prices. The cafeteria has multiple seating areas and is well-maintained. The quality of food and the general hygiene is satisfactory. The cafeteria is a primary hangout spot for students. The institute has a dedicated canteen committee responsible for the cafeteria's maintenance and Management.

The institute has a decent infrastructure with the necessary facilities and amenities. However, some areas require renovation and improvement to include more modern facilities. Apart from the unavailability of certain facilities within specific departmental laboratories, students are generally impressed by the institute's infrastructure. Moreover, the institute is in a prime location, making it easier for students to access urban facilities and spend their holidays efficiently.

Cramped Hostels

The institute provides housing facilities for both boys and girls in separate hostels located within the campus. The students are allotted rooms on a first-come-first-serve basis, so they must apply for hostel accommodation at the time of admission. The rooms available at the institute are mostly multi-sharing, with shared bathroom facilities. 

The rooms are well-furnished, with separate beds, tables, chairs and cupboards for each individual. In addition to that, the hostels provide basic amenities like recreation facilities, laundry facilities and round-the-clock power backup. Some hostel rooms also include air-conditioning, which can be opted by students based on their preferences and budget.

Due to the number of occupants in a room, most hostel rooms are overcrowded, lacking personal space and privacy. This may be an issue for some students. Apart from that, the hostels are clean and well-maintained.

Though timely meals are served through clean and hygienic mess facilities, students have expressed dissatisfaction with the food quality. The meals are served in spacious dining areas available in each hostel. Yet, students have mentioned that there have been incidents where they had health issues due to the lack of quality of food served in the hostel mess. 

However, the safety and security of the students at the hostel are assured by the 24/7 security personnel placed at all parts of the hostel. The hostels also have strict rules and regulations regarding curfew timings and guest visitors. But, these rules are more lenient compared to the other private universities. Overall, students find the hostels at the institute convenient and comfortable, except for the overcrowded rooms and occasional issues related to the mess food. 

Typically, the annual hostel fees at the institute range from INR 62,000 to INR 98,000 for boys and INR 62,000 to INR 92,000, with additional charges, like mess fees and security deposit. The hostel fees vary depending on the availability of facilities, occupancy and room type.

In addition to the on-campus housing facilities, numerous other options are available around the institute. Students can opt to stay in PGs and private hostels within the institute's premises based on their preferences and budget. The monthly rents for the PGs available near the institute fall between INR 5000 and INR 12,000, based on the facilities and luxuries provided.

Not Many Extracurricular Activities

Based on students' reviews on online platforms, the institute is mainly focused on academics, and there are little to no extracurricular activities available for students. Apart from sports, students do not have many clubs and associations to participate in, which stops them from pursuing their interests and hobbies. However, the institute occasionally conducts some fests and programs that provide students with the opportunity to showcase their talents and skills.

The institute organises an annual techno-cultural fest where students from different Engineering colleges visit the institute and participate in other programs. Some significant events held at this techno-cultural fest include robo-wars, andro-car, dance and music competitions, marketing events, etc.

Although there are fewer extracurricular activities available at the institute, it has an active sports culture where students are encouraged to participate in inter-college and inter-departmental sports competitions and tournaments. Generally, students are not happy with their campus life as there are few opportunities for them to pursue their interests and academics. 

Diversity on Campus

The institute has a diverse student population, with students from different parts of the country. However, primarily students are from the northern part of the country, and the widely spoken language is Hindi. The institute also has a balanced gender ratio, with all students receiving equal opportunities. As the course fees at the institute are nominal, students from different socioeconomic backgrounds are also part of the student community.

Dress Code

There is no defined uniform, but the students at the institute are expected to follow a specific dress code, especially in the first year. The students must wear simple, modest, decent attires appropriate for the academic setting. They are expected to wear formal clothes for educational events and lab coats for practical sessions.

Inconsistent Placements

The placements offered to the students at the institute vary based on their programs. Most placement opportunities are available to those graduating from Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communications Engineering and Information Technology branches. Students from these branches are recruited by top companies with high salary packages.

However, the placement rates vary every year. According to the previous years' trends, the institute witnessed the highest placement rate in the last year, at 86.8%. More than 870 students received decent placement offers from various industries. Based on the statistics, the highest salary package offered that year was INR 57.32 LPA, and the average salary package was between INR 7.5 to 8 LPA.

Overall Impression on JSS Noida

While it has a long-standing reputation of being one of the top private institutes in the country, JSS Noida lacks in providing consistent academic opportunities across different branches in the Engineering field. Based on the students' reviews on online platforms, aspirants planning to pursue core branches are advised to check other options before finalising their admission to the institute.

However, its affordable course fee structure, prime location and modern infrastructure still invite several students from different parts of the state. Aspirants are recommended to connect with past and present students to learn more about the academic and career prospects available at the institute before admission.
