Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi, commonly known as IGRUA is known for its world-class flying training. It sets a wonderful example of standardized and excellent flyers. The foundation stone of this institute was laid by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Late Capt Rajiv Gandhi on 07 November 1985. It is located in Amethi, UP. The college produces excellent pilots on the grounds of the Fursatganj District. When airlines choose pilots for their company, IGRUA is always their first choice. It is an autonomous body that works under the control of the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), Govt. of India (GOI) through its Governing Council (GC). The institution is Government owned and over the years, the institution has shown an Excellent Placement Record.

Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Academy Courses

The institute provides a handful of courses to its students which are approved by the Director-General of Civil Aviation, Govt. of India so that they can avail maximum benefit from it. These courses are mentioned below:

1. Ab-initio to Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) coupled with Instrument and Multi-Engine Endorsement along with an option for B.Sc (Aviation) degree.
2. Simulator training as per candidate's requirements.
3. Multi-Engine endorsement.
4. Instrument Rating.
5. License issue/ renewal tests and Licence endorsement checks.
6. Ab-initio to Commercial Pilots Licence (CPL) course for foreign nationals as per Regulatory requirements in their respective countries
7. Specifically designed training courses for Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard Pilots.
8. CRM Workshop
9. Multi-Crew Co-operation (MCC) Course
10. AELP Training and Testing course

Some of the ground training subjects are Air Navigation, Aviation Meteorology, Aircraft GK, Multijet Operations, Crew Resource Management, etc. Other than this, the institute provides certain courses that are conducted on request as per the requirements of the students. Another course that IGRUA offers is a Multi-Crew Co-operation course.

Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Academy Admission

The admission generally takes place in March/April. In case of any details, candidates can contact the office by sending a mail at ops@igrua.gov.in with basic information like course, name, contact address, flying experience, etc.

The admission in IGRUA takes place in three steps:

1. A written test is conducted for 2 hours all over India at various centres.
2. The pilot aptitude test checks the aptitude of students.
3. A face-to-face interview is conducted by the interview board.

Representatives from bigwigs like DGCA, Phycologist, IGRUA examiners, and NACIL are present in those interviews. Following GOI guidelines, some seats are reserved for SC/ ST/ OBC/ EWS categories. A Class I medical certificate is also required before joining the course.

Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Academy Eligibility Criteria

To take admission at IGRUA, students need to fulfil the eligibility criteria that are mentioned below.

IGRUA CPL Eligibility

• Minimum age at the time of joining the course: 17 years
• Qualifications: 10+2 with Maths, Physics, and English
• For general Category: 50% marks in Physics and Maths taken together + pass in English
• For SC/ ST/ OBC/ EWS candidates: 45% marks in Physics and Maths taken together + pass in English

IGRUA  B.Sc Eligibility

• Candidates can opt for B.Sc (Aviation) Degree from  Chatrapati Sahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur which shall be conducted simultaneously with the CPL course subject to completion of the prescribed syllabus on aviation subjects, flying, and project work. 

Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Academy Infrastructure Facilities

Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Academy has Technical-Cum-Operational area that is spread over an area of 239 acres. The classrooms are air-conditioned. It has in-campus hostel facilities for both boys and girls. The vast area enables the students to hold extracurricular activities. Night flight facilities are available. It has an independent and dedicated runway of 1722 m in length. Overall, the campus of  IGRUA is vast and used for various academic purposes.  Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Academy infrastructure facilities are listed below.

• Training unit with AC Classrooms equipped with multimedia projector and sound system. CBT lab with interactive CDs and multimedia projector. 
• A fleet of 24 Aircraft comprising 5 Trinidad TB-20, 4 Zlin, 13 Diamond DA40. Two DA42.
• Two most modern DA40 Simulators with phenomenal visuals to aid realistic training
• One most modern DA42 Simulator with phenomenal visuals to aid realistic training
• Two fixed-base Cockpit Procedure Trainers for TB-20 Aircraft with Visual.
• Touch panel trainers, WOMBAT Pilot Aptitude Testing Device, CBT System.

Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Academy Hostel Details

IGRUA provides two separate hostels for boys and girls. The hostels are well-furnished and provide accommodation at nominal charges. Both these hostels are within the campus. The hostel can accommodate up to 200 students from all across India. The hostel works on a first come first serve basis. Other than this, there are various PGs where students can find accommodation at reasonable prices. The hostel has a mess facility for both boys and girls. The quality of food that the hostel serves is of good quality and proper hygiene is maintained for the same. There is a wide range of options for snacks and that too at a reasonable price.
