The IMU Visakhapatnam Campus emerges from the confluence of the centrally established Indian Maritime University at Chennai, and India's premier ship design and maritime research institution, the National Ship Design and Research Centre. Pioneered in the early 90`s by the Government of India to pilot and consolidate national domain knowledge with global vision, NSDRC has undertaken several milestone projects in the areas of Ship Design, Construction and Applied Research.
Therefore, IMU Visakhapatnam Campus heralds the integration of visionary academic insight with the accumulated professional expertise and knowledge base on Ship Design and Maritime Technology.

Eligibility Criteria at IMU Visakhapatnam 

• A Bachelors of Science degree (B.Sc) in Ship Building and Repair form Indian Maritime University (IMU) with at least 60% marks overall and should have completed the degree within the stipulated period of 3 years
• A Diploma in Ship Building Engineering from Institute of Ship Building Technology (ISBT), Goa with at least 60% marks overall and should have completed the diploma within the stipulated period of 4 years
• A Diploma in Mechanical/Civil Engineering from any institute approved by AICTE with at least 60% marks overall and should have completed the diploma within the stipulated period of 3 years

Admission Procedure at IMU Visakhapatnam 

• Application forms are issued online 
• All admissions are done on the basis of merit and lateral entry
• Walk-in-interviews will be conducted to admit students (Second years only)
• For students seeking admission in first year, IMU conducts a common entrance examination
• All admissions are done on the basis of the examination
• Students must be present with the required documents
• Admissions are done on first come-first serve basis

Cutoffs at IMU Visakhapatnam 

The cutoffs at the University is evaluated on various factors, such as :

• The vacancy of seats for the particular course
• The difficulty level of the question paper/ competitive examination
• The average marks scored by students in the competitive examination/ Higher Secondary examination
• The number of people who have passed in the competitive examination/Higher Secondary Examination

Hostel Facilities at  IMU Visakhapatnam 

• The residential quarters of National Ship Design & Research Centre were renovated and furnished to accommodation 112 undergraduate and 12 postgraduate male students.
• Two separate flats built exclusively for girl students
• The rooms are spacious and maintained in a hygienic manner
• There is a medical center within the hostel to assist students in case of medical emergencies
• The is power backup and ample water supply
• There is internet access across the hostel
• There is decent catering facility in the hostel
• The mess is kept clean and maintained by a separate college staff
