Government First Grade College, [GFGC] Shimoga is at Thirthahalli. Thirthahalli is a Taluk of Shimoga district of Karnataka state in India. It lies on the banks of the river Tunga and surrounded by the Western Ghats called as Malnad region. It is the land of Jnanapeeta awardees, great poets, politicians, socialists, reformers and epic Parushurama. It is 60 kms from the district headquarters and the National Highway NH-13(Thirthahalli Road) access to other cities. The Nearest railway station is in Shimoga and Konkan railway which links major cities of the nation. The nearest airport is Mangalore International Airport.
This college was established in the year 2007 may by the government of Karnataka and started with 250. Now the college has about 1500 students are learning in this college. Among the strength majority of the students are female nearly 70%. They are hails from the remote rural areas. This college was started with one man of Principal. Today permanent staffs of this college are 17 from teaching and four are non-teaching.
