Set up in 1974, the Department of Industrial and Management Engineering (IME) at IIT Kanpur was one of the first in the country to recognize the strength of combining the training of engineers with management education. Today the Department is engaged in a diverse set of activities that include teaching, academic research, industry consulting, regularly held management development programmes, and public sector projects.
The curriculum at IME comprises state-of-art techniques to plan, design, implement and manage integrated systems of men, materials, capital, information and technology. The subjects taught provide a well-rounded coverage of the methods to manage and improve productivity, customer satisfaction and profitability of industrial, information and infrastructural (service) systems.
The Department of Industrial and Management Engineering of IIT Kanpur also known as IME was set up in 1974. The department was one of the first in the country which was established to acknowledge the strength of merging management with training of the engineers.
Alumni: Over a period of nearly 40 years the department has produced alumni who are spread all over the world. Some of the noted alumni are:

Courses: The course curriculum comprises of state of the art techniques to design, manage, plan and implement integrated systems of men, capital information, technology and capital. The courses are designed so that engineers can be trained into complete managers. The courses provided are:
Master of Technology which include financial, IT and quantitative courses whose applications can be found in Financial Engineering, Marketing Engineering and Production Management.
Master of Business Administration with specialization in Innovation and entrepreneurship, Marketing, Operations, IT & Systems, Analytics and Finance.
Bachelor in Technology/ Bachelor of Science students become eligible for “Minor in Management” if they credit any 3 course from Department of Industrial and Management Engineering.
My course fee is INR 5500 per year and around 40% of the students get the scholarship.
