When it comes to the total number of MBBS seats in government medical colleges of India, there are two categories - All India Quota (AIQ) and State Quota. Under AIQ, a maximum of 15% of seats are reserved in every govt medical college, which are allocated based on the NEET counselling conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). The remaining 85% State Quota seats are allotted to domicile candidates in that state, provided they meet all the requirements and admission criteria. Meeting the NEET cutoff percentile is mandatory to become eligible for counselling and seat allocation. The MCC will release the NEET seat matrix on its official website, mcc.nic.in.
The MCC will also release the seat matrix for BDS seats in govt dental colleges prior to the commencement of the NEET UG 2025 counselling process. You must go through the seat matrix to understand the clear distribution of BDS seats in government colleges across different Union Territories and States.
