Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU) is a State technical university of Punjab, India. The Institution is located in Bathinda. MRSPTU was established in the year 2014 to promote technical, management and pharmaceutical education in the state of Punjab at the degree level and above.
I. K. Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU) is a State University is located at Kapurthala highway, Jalandhar, India. The Institute was formerly known as Punjab Technical University (PTU). It was established in the year 1997. It was established by an act of State Legislature on 16 January to promote technical, management and pharmaceutical education in the state of Punjab at the degree level and above.
The merger is not considered by the State Government
It has come to a notice that The state government has not even considered the merging of Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University with IK Gujral PTU, Jalandhar, at any kind of level. All these false rumors about the merging of the two universities are being spread by political opponents. The rumors are being spread with the aim to tarnish the image of Capt Amarinder Singh-led Punjab Government.
This was stated by Punjab Technical Education Minister Charanjit Singh Channi. The Minister said that he had never made this kind of a statement. Clearing his stand on this issue he said that he never spoke about the merger of these two Universities and he further mentioned that this kind of an issue was never discussed at any level in the department.

Charanjit Singh Channi, the Education minister of Punjab Technical University clearly stated that nobody would be allowed to play with the interests of students as students are supreme for the University and the government was committed to providing quality and job-oriented education to the youth of the state through its technical institutes. The minister also appealed to the students not to fall into the trap of false rumors spread by political opponents of the ruling state government.
