What is a Letter of Enrollment (LoE)?

A Letter of Enrollment (LoE) is an official letter that confirms a candidate’s enrollment at a certain university or college. It is sent to the student in the form of a letterhead containing the student's full name, identification number, program enrolled in, the type of course (full-time or part-time), and the academic year and dates of his or her enrollment. Difference between Offer Letter and Letter of Enrollment

Most students make the mistake of assuming that the Offer Letter and the Letter of Enrollment are the same. However, these are two separate documents that a university sends to the students. Here is the difference between the two of them:

Offer Letter

The university issues an offer letter to candidates after their application has been approved. If you receive an offer letter, you must sign it and resend it to the university to confirm your acceptance of admission. 

This letter acknowledges that the student has accepted the terms and conditions outlined by the university. It is, however, not a final confirmation of admission of the candidates. Students can now use the letter to apply for a student visa and complete further formalities for admission to a university.

Letter of Enrollment

A Letter of Enrollment is issued by a university to confirm the student's final admission to the university. Students are required to pay an initial tuition fee amount to receive the Letter of Enrollment. This amount must be paid to secure a seat for a particular course at the university. 

Throughout the duration of the course, each student needs to possess a copy of the LoE since it serves as proof of candidature at a specific university. In the UK, it is known as a CAS letter, whereas in Canada, it is referred to as a Letter of Acceptance.

The following details are included in a Letter of Enrollment:

• Full name of the candidate
• Student’s ID number
• Program/s of study (current & prior)
• Type of course (full-time or part-time)
• Approved leave dates (if applicable)
• Nominated completion date
• Academic year dates

How to Request for Letter of Enrollment? 

Universities usually send a Letter of Enrollment to a candidate's registered email address. There may be a variation in a university's application processing time depending on the course, the number of applications received, etc. Usually, the admissions office of a university contacts the students if there are any problems during the enrollment process. 

While filling out the application form, applicants must ensure they have entered the correct email address. Many universities send a Letter of Enrollment via email as confirmation mail and do not send any letter offline to the mailing address. 

While an LoE is usually received on time, the candidate may send a formal email to the communication centres requesting the LoE if they feel the processing time is delayed. In order to receive it on time, the applicant must fill out the application correctly and upload all the required documents.

3 Types of Letters Used to Verify Enrollment

The following types of letters can be requested to verify your enrollment:

• Letter of Enrollment: It is the most common type of letter that serves as proof of registration for the candidate. You can also use this letter to extend your study permit, obtain a Social Insurance Number (SIN), and renew your Temporary Resident Visa (TRV).
• Co-op Work Permit Letter: This letter is useful for obtaining or extending the Co-op Work Permit.
• Bank Letter: This letter will help you apply for an education loan in your home country. It contains all the information about the tuition fees and other charges that students need to pay at the time of enrollment.
