The second wave of Covid broke out in April 2021, and Abdullahi Ibrahim Haruna, a Nigerian student who was in pursuing Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering from SRM University, Delhi, looks back on how he was stuck in India, unable to visit home. No one except a handful of international students was on the campus. The SRMUH team stepped in and took complete care. All the facilities at the campus, including the canteen, kept running. Despite not having citizen identification cards, the university took all the measures to get the students vaccinated.
As quoted by the International Affairs Director, Mr. Manoj Madhavan Kutty, "India is regarded as a communication center and is popular among international students around the globe. India is an academic hub that offers a holistic learning opportunity to course-seekers. The university has witnessed organic admissions, majorly from Africa and SAARC countries. In Indian Universities, English is a common communication language, making it very appealing for the global community. For an international student, the advantage of studying in India is that the cost of education is relatively low compared to other countries."
Another story was shared by Quaasim from Afghanistan, who completed his MBA in India. He recalls the critical times when he felt helpless as he couldn’t go back to his country. In addition, his father suffered huge losses in business. So he contacted the Office of International Affairs and expressed his interest in pursuing his Ph.D in Management. As per Quaasim, Mr. Vikas Bajaj at the International Affairs Department was very supportive and helped him in preparing his file and documentation. He also helped him secure a scholarship at the University. Mr. Bajaj said, “We work for the noble cause of enlightening the world; hence we support students from diverse backgrounds from multifaceted cultures and geographies.”

The student exchange program at SRMUH acts as a bridge between students and multiculturalism, exposing them to different managerial aspects of the nation. SRM University has a diverse student population providing equal values to every student. It has collaborations and networks with different countries like the USA, UK, Germany, China, Australia, etc.
