It is a state-level eligibility entrance test conducted to select eligible and capable applicants for the Assistant Professor post in universities/colleges in Gujarat. The GSET exam is conducted by the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara.
Until 1989, UGC was responsible for conducting a National Eligibility Test (NET) to select potential candidates for Assistant Professor recruitment across India. After that, UGC asked the state governments and Union Territories to conduct their own eligibility tests.
