University of Canberra provides a great launchpad for technology-related careers. Know more here
In a world powered by technology and driven by innovation, it is no surprise that students are flocking toward careers in the field of technology. With top businesses around the world focused on digital innovation, there is a strong demand there is for top quality technology qualified professionals.
When it comes to starting an international career in technology, not all international cities are created equal. Not every city in the world can offer the opportunities budding tech professional needs to propel their career forward. That is where Australia’s capital city, Canberra, comes in.
Canberra is the frontline of innovation
Canberra prides itself on its cutting-edge infrastructure and resources intended to fuel the next generation of IT professionals who aim to transform the world for the better.
The city has already established itself as the country’s leader in innovation and development. This can be attested to by Canberra being Australia’s first city to establish a 100% renewable energy electricity supply. Moreover, it is also the first city in the world to allow a trial of drones for the purpose of home deliveries and is home to some of the world’s largest domestic power plants.
Still not impressed? Canberra also has the largest deployment of free Wi-Fi among Australian cities. It is also home to all major government institutions such as the Department of Defence and Australian Secret Intelligence Organization and global consultancy firms such as PWC, IBM, and Infosys which are in constant need of high-caliber tech professionals.
There is also the Canberra Business Innovation Network (CBRIN) that performs a big role in encouraging local businesses and upcoming entrepreneurs with big ideas for change. In fact, 14.5% of people in Canberra have technology-related jobs, the highest proportion in Australia. They are also commanding higher than average salaries, earning an additional $11,000 per annum as compared to other professional occupations.
Clearly, the scope for digital technology professionals is endless. But how does one go from being a student to a professional? Which University can bridge that gap the best? Here is where the University of Canberra (UC) comes into the fray.
UC primes students to be the leaders in the digi-tech space
The University of Canberra (UC) provides a great launchpad for technology-related careers. It ranks among the top universities in the world and amongst the top young universities worldwide. UC’s Computing and Information Systems undergraduates rank in the top five nationally for earnings in the first year after graduation.
In the tech space, one can choose from cutting-edge specializations such as Cloud Computing and the Internet of Things (IOT), AI and Robotics, Cyber Security, and Data Science. Their courses have been expertly designed in collaboration with the heavyweights of the tech industry.
The courses offered at the undergraduate level are:
- Bachelor of Business Informatics,
- Bachelor of Software Engineering,
- Bachelor of Information Technology,
At the postgraduate level, UC offers the following degrees:
- Master of Information Technology,
- Master of Information Technology and Systems,
- Master of Business Informatics,
- Master of Data Science,
- Master of Engineering.
In addition to this UC also primes their students to enter the professional domain fully equipped with not just theoretical knowledge but with practical knowledge as well.
Through the Work Integrated Learning (WIL) program, students can partake in activities such as internships, projects, simulations, apprenticeships, and fieldwork. It is a great way for them to “learn the ropes” while pursuing their degree and helps them to be job-ready even before the completion of their graduation.
All of these aid students who complete their graduation from UC to get top-line digital technology jobs not just within the country but around the world too.
Still don’t believe what you read? Let some of UC’s recent graduates tell you their tale
How UC shaped some of today’s top digi-tech professionals
Sanjana Sharavana, currently working as a cyber security analyst with PWC Australia, completed her Master’s degree in Information Technology and Systems at UC with a specialization in Cyber Security.
Shedding light on how the university helped her attain success she says, “When you have to face a client and understand their situation and come up with cyber security remediations, it is a quite challenging role. UC helped me implement some of my knowledge gained through my studies.”
She also talks about how the WIL program played a part in shaping her up for a career and life in Australia. “The highlight for me was my internship at UC. It gave me a wider perspective of how Australian work culture is,” she adds.
However, Sanjana is not the only one who credits UC’s digital technology courses for kickstarting her career. Dr Jyoti Joshi, creator of the AI tech start-up Kroop also shares a similar story.
Dr Joshi completed her doctorate degree from UC and has used her utilized her knowledge to create a ground-breaking start-up that aims to become ‘the voice of the metaverse.’
At UC, she had the opportunity to work as a research assistant where she “learnt that methodological research along with persistence was the key to crack research problems.”
Dr Joshi adds, “Research environments really enhanced the overall experience during my PhD.” I also learnt AI problem-solving, which came in handy when I started Kroop AI. The networks I established during my graduate studies at UC also helped.”
Kroop AI’s success for its “innovative use of Artificial Intelligence for audio and visual data generation both for real-world data and the metaverse” resulted in Dr Joshi representing India at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, As part of the delegation, five start-ups were chosen to represent the content generation work in the country.
Clearly the incredible results of UC Alumni are there for all to see. Perhaps you could be the next proud UC Alumni in digital technology that the world talks about.
To sum it all up, UC provides one of the best gateways for students to transition from the world of theoretical knowledge to the work-based, real-world practical application thus developing career-ready professionals in technology. As the industry continues to grow, new fields in the technology industry will require graduates with specialised skills. By studying technology at UC students can position themselves at the forefront of a booming, multi-billion-dollar industry in new and emerging fields like data science, cyber security, artificial intelligence, and robotics.
