Companies to recruit from lesser known colleges like Sree Vidyanikethan Engineering College for dedicated workers

The IIT/IIM label has begun to lose its charm, with many popular startups like Paytm and Voonik preferring to hire graduates from undiscovered colleges. These are just a couple of new-age enterprises that are looking past the IIT-IIM choices for recruitment. Recruitment from lesser known institutions helps companies discover a gargantuan talent pool, and bring in workers that are willing to work harder to compensate for their lack of an Ivy league degree.

Voonik makes Sree Vidyanikethan Engineering College one of their preferred colleges for recruitment

Voonik is an online shopping app operating in products for women’s fashion. It works on a 10,000 rule algorithm to help users find the right product on the basis of filters like skin tone, body type and preferences.

Its co-founder, Sujayath Ali says, "The guiding beacon when hiring is stickiness and this comes from spreading the hiring net across far-flung areas. IIT and IIM grads are not loyal and are constantly looking out for other opportunities,". For Voonik, tier II candidates have performed better than IIT/IIM grads. "This gave us the confidence to go exclusively to tier II colleges," adds Ali.

Voonik hires from colleges that city slickers are unlikely to have heard of like GITAM School of Technology in Hyderabad, Telangana; and Sree Vidyanikethan Engineering College in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh.

"Our culture stresses on being fundamentally nice to each other and that comes naturally to tier II recruits," claims Ali. 

Trophy hires are no longer the trend

Alumni from the elite universities of India are obviously considered the cream of the crop for their intellectual bandwidth, which gets a chance to further blossom courtesy of top-notch faculty members and first-class infrastructure.

It would be a no-brainer to say that graduates from colleges like Sree Vidyanikethan Engineering College, Tirupati can rest easy knowing that they will easily get into reputed companies with good pay irrespective of the college they graduated from.
