Assam University held a workshop for the first time in 2016 and received a tremendous response from the student community. This year the university hosted a workshop on Shakespearean Theatre and the constraints and the dynamics involved in presenting Shakespeare to the audience in the 21st Century.
The Worksop Aims at Providing an Insight into the World of Contemporary Theatre
Through the workshop, the university aimed at familiarizing the students with the requirements of contemporary cinema. The workshop was held from April 10th to 14th. The workshop wanted to strike a balance between the theory and the practical aspects of Shakespearean cinema. It aimed at studying the performative and the practical aspects of the plays.
A celebrated thespian, Ankit Chakraborty. with international exposure in the theatrical arena, with the first-hand experience of staging Shakespeare for the Bengali audience, was the chief of the workshop.
A professor from the university said that they chose Shakespeare because of its ever increasing popularity around the globe.
Prof Asha Kuthari Chaudhuri, from the Department of English, Gauhati University was also present at the workshop. She delivered lectures about the theoretical aspects of Shakespearean theatre as adaptations and performances.
