Alagappa University located at Karaikudi in Tamil Nadu has been reaccredited with ‘A’ Grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). Promotion of University Research and Scientific Excellence (PURSE), in its second phase, has awarded Rs. 7 crore to Alagappa University. The university has been selected on the basis of the research publications contributed by the respective faculty in the last 10 years. Alagappa University was one of the 29 universities selected for this award. If the intimation of the Union Ministry of Science and Technology is to be believed, then the award could be utilised in the period of next four years.
Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS)
The prestigious Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Invitation Fellowship has been awarded to Prof G. Ravi, Head of the Department of Physics and Dean, Industrial Consultancy. The fellowship awarded by the Government of Japan has been offered in recognition of his outstanding research contributions in the field of material science.PURSE is an incentive award scheme which was introduced with a focus on rejuvenation of research in universities by Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. The funds are sanctioned by DST upon assessing h-index value in research and development performance.
Sponsorship of the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu
Under the sponsorship of the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, the University has proposed to conduct the State level Inter-University Hockey Tournament for Men and Women from December 2 to 4. The University would also host the South Zone Inter-University Hockey Tournament for Men and Women during December 27 to 31, under the aegis of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).The University has 29 Departments, 6 Centres and 2 Constituent Colleges on its campus. 35 Affiliated Colleges and 1 Autonomous College are the off-campus ones. Courses offered by the university includes Regular, Week-end, Distance and Collaborative modes. Through all modes of education, the University caters to the needs of the student community of around 1,00,000.It has also been informed that the University had been conducting Village Placement Programmes (VPP) to enable students to stay in select villages and study the socio-economic conditions of people belonging to different communities. “Centre for Tamil Culture” proposed to conduct workshops and seminars in order to make known to the outside world, the great principles with which Tamils led life.
