Chandigarh: Wushu Association of India has organized a five-day 29th Senior National Wushu Championship(Boys/Girls) at Chandigarh University - Sports Complex from 26th February to 2nd March 2021. The prestigious event kickstarts with great enthusiasm. More than 1000 players from different states of the country are participating in this five-day competition.
Inauguration Ceremony
Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Sodhi is the Chief Guest and has inaugurated the ceremony. President of Wushu Association of India Sri Bhupendra Singh Bajwa - Arjuna Award holder, Vice President - S. Surinder Singh Sodhi(IPS), and Sh PS Papta, IPS ( Indo Tibetan Border Police) have given their notable presence on the first day.
Star Players
The day became more pleasant as the champions were greeted at Chandigarh University. Pooja Kadian, M. Bimoljit Singh, and Sandhya Rani Devi- renowned Wushu players and Dronacharya Awardee and Indian Wushu Team Chief Coach Kuldeep Handoo will be felicitated for their grand achievements at the National and International level.
Pooja Kadian has been awarded the prestigious Arjuna Award in 2018 and the "Gold" medal in the 2017 World Championship at Kazan. M.Bimoljit Singh is the winner of the Arjuna award in 2012. A two times National Gold Medalist. Sandhyarani Devi has been awarded Arjuna Award in 2011 and won several "Bronze" and "Silver" medals at world championships.
About the Event
The five-day National Men's and Women's Wushu Championship event will witness 32 teams from 28 states and eight union territories. The championship competition is played under the Taolu and Sanda categories. Under Wushu's Sanda competitions, the boy's team plays under 11 different weight categories while the girls play under eight other weight classes.
