Kamla Nehru Institute of Technology was established in 1976 by Kamla Memorial Nehru's trust. Later in 1979 Government of Uttar Pradesh taken over the institute to develop an esteemed technical institution in Uttar Pradesh. Then in 1983 the institute became a separate society and renamed Kamla Nehru Institute of Technology. The Institute is presently an autonomous college of Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow. 

The KNIT is one of the top leading technical institutes in Uttar Pradesh. KNIT admission is done based on the AKUT-entrance exam, exams are carried out every year by AKUT. The interested candidates can check out the last year cut off of the college. The Institute is a Statutory Organization registered under the societies registration act of Uttar Pradesh. It is financially and administratively controlled by the U.P Government.

• Department of Applied Sciences and Humanities: 
  The KNIT's Applied Sciences and Humanities department is an allied department that serves as a bedrock for the engineering departments of the institute. The Department takes care of core subjects like mathematics, physics, chemistry, and professional communications. The department has a competent and knowledgeable faculty and well-equipped laboratories like a chemistry lab, laser lab, physics lab, professional communication lab, and departmental computer centre.

• Department of Civil Engineering:
  KNIT's Civil Engineering Department is one of the oldest departments of the institute. The department has a superb teaching faculty and good technical staff. The department is equipped with a modern piece of instruments. The civil department aims to make students more responsible for a technical fit to meet the global requirements. The department provides laboratory facilities like Environmental, hydraulics, geology, transportation, survey, graphics, and concrete laboratories are provided.

• Department of Electrical Engineering:
  KNIT's Electrical Engineering Department is also the oldest department of the institute. The department has well-qualified teaching faculty and technical staff it provides laboratory facilities to both full-time and part-time PG students. KNIT's Electrical engineering department aims to build an imbibed quality electrical engineer. 

• Department of Electronics Engineering: 
  KNIT Electronics Engineering department runs on the world bank assisted TEQIP Program. The focal point of the department is to develop competent technocrats who strive continuously in pursuit of professional excellence in the field of Electronics Engineering.

• Department of Mechanical Engineering: 
  The mechanical engineering department is also amongst the oldest branches in the institute which provides. The department has acquired state of the art equipment and provides laboratory facilities like heat and mass transfer lab, steam power lab, fluid machinery lab, wind energy lab, material sciences lab, production engineering lab, and metrology measurement labs are provided to both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

• Department of Computer Science and Engineering:
  The KNIT's Computer Science Engineering department is one of the largest departments in the institute. The department is well equipped with high-end computers the latest software and great infrastructure this department offers B.Tech, M.Tech, and MCA programs.

Kamla Nehru Institute provides various infrastructure facilities to encourage the students and provide a good learning environment on the campus. KMIT library is a well-stored information centre it also provides an e-library facility and free access to wi-fi and students can make use of internet facilities throughout the campus which helps them for research and development.

KMIT maintains a health centre to provide primary health care facilities to its students and staff for that sake institute adopts a full-time medical officer in case of specialized treatment is referred to the district hospital. The college maintains a large cafeteria where the quality of food is provided to both local students and hostel students as well. The institute has a branch of Punjab National Bank and Bank of Baroda with a 24/7 ATM facility.

KMIT provides a transport facility to local students it has a deluxe bus of 52 seat capacity where it is also used for out-station education camp and industrial visit. Kamla Nehru Institute of Technology Hostel Details:

Kamla Nehru Institute of Technology provides various infrastructure facilities. KMIT facilities include separate hostel facilities for both boys and girls inclusive of the mess facility. The Institute provides 10 hostels for boys which accommodates 750 candidates and 3 Girls hostel which accommodates 200 students. The hostels are clean and hygienic it serves the students with healthy food and a homely environment.
