Placements and Internships
- I have not done internships during my summer breaks since I went to my home. But my college provides summer internships on VLSI, C, C++ etc.
- It also organises personality development events, happiness program which you can opt for.
- In the beginning of the 7th semester, the industry interface cell provides intensive PPT training programs so that you become ready to crack any company tests and interviews.
- If you have good aptitude ability with good communication skills then congratulations you are hired.
- Companies like Wipro and Infosys come at day 0 of the recruitment period.
- They offer salary package of Rs 3.28L and Rs 3.30L to every selected candidate.
- Then other companies like Tech Mahindra, MindTree and Capgemini come. They offer slightly less as compared to Wipro and Infosys.
- Students from CSE are mostly selected.From my branch till now 25 got placed out of 50.
- My college also organises Alumni meet. They notify to the students through facebook group silicon worldwide where thousands of students are its members.
- Our chairman and other faculty members are very active in the group.
College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities
- One hostel for girls and two hostels for Boys are present. These hostels are in good conditions. Three students per room are allowed. At every floor, one caretaker lives in the girls' residence.
- The hostel costs around Rs 30000 per year. But it lacks reading room facilities and wifi.
- Non veg food item in the college canteen is good but veg items lack taste and quality compared to price.
- Breakfast, lunch and dinner cost around 80 bucks per day and 3K per month. Mostly students make home deliveries as the dinner is worst. This is the one where my college still needs to focus.
- The classrooms are well ventilated and lightened but with no ACs.The green boards are large. Each classroom has a clock and a projector.
- The library has also a good sitting capacity and wide varieties of newspapers, magazines, books, journals, etc. But during exam, it becomes very difficult to get access to the particular subject book as other students from other branches already took those books.
- The number of books of common subjects should be increased.
Entrance Exams and Admissions
- My college offers courses like BTech, MTech and MCA.It is among the top ranking colleges of Odisha.
- First, you have to qualify OJEE/JEE entrance exams with a good score to get into this college.
- After having the score card you have to sit for counselling where you have to prioritise college based on your rank.
- Though you can get into this college with the management quota but you should have a valid score card of these entrance exams and also this will incur heavy cost overheads.
- The entrance exam will put questions from Physics, Chemistry and Maths.
- At my time OJEE did not have any negative marks but this does not happen at all times.
- My general rank was 3500 and I got Information Technology branch in this college.
- If you want branches like: ECE, EEE and CSE you have to secure a more good rank.
Academics and Faculty
- The classes may start from 8:00 am or 10:00 am it depends upon which semester you are in and it will suspend at 3:20 or 5:10.
- Project works will be undertaken when you are in 4th year.It carries credits also.Project areas include Cloud Computing, web Technology, Data mining, Haddop, Compiler design etc.
- Assignments are given to those students who secure poor marks in internal tests.
- Here the faculties are hardworking in teaching and in clearing doubts. They are also punctual to the classrooms. High weightage is given to the attendance of any students.
- Those failing the criteria (at least 75% per subject) are debarred from giving the semester exam.
- I am a Delhite but I never felt much change here.The students are from Odisha locals(Bhubaneshwar), Jharkhand, West Bengal, Delhi, Andhra and Bihar.
- All are very friendly and helpful.
- I live in the hostel and through these years you would learn about so many things. It's truly your best phase.
Fees and Scholarships
- For the 1st year, I paid around Rs 1L and 60000. But if you are in CSE your fees may vary. Any student who has any kind of financial problem can write an application to make payment in instalments.
- Students from unstable financial backgrounds can apply for Medhabruti scholarship scheme. They get Rs 10000 from this scheme.
- About 40-50% of the students per branch get benefits from this scheme.
- Many of my friends are studying full time under a loan.Rates of educational loans are lower.Banks such as SBI, ICICI, BOI etc provide loans.
- You can pay at least half of the college fees through the loan.
Clubs and Associations
- On campus, there are clubs such as silicon students council (SSC)where students after winning elections become part of this group, CCC(campus life coordination committee) which organises events for hostilities, silicon music club(for dancers, singers etc), silicon green club, ZEAL, ISTE etc.
- Every year in the month of Feb, SSC organise tech-fest and cultural functions in the campus and CCC organise every festival on-campus for the hostilities.
- This includes DJ, puja, games, ramp walk etc.
- The life in the college is awesome

Entrance Exams & Admissions : Eligibility criteria- A student must complete his/her 12th in science stream with an average mark Entertainment exam- Get a good mark or rank in all India Jee main exam and after that your rank will evaluate through OJEE and admission take place in month of July Cutoffs- the cutoff is not much high but it should be average one because silicon is counted the best college in BPUT university.
