College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities

  • All the programs run by the institute are essentially residential programs. The institute provides rooms in the hostel to all students. The students stay in a healthy atmosphere and perfect living conditions along with friends to share the precious moments of life. Separate hostels for boys and girls with modern amenities help the students to pursue their education in a homely environment. In order to accommodate all students in the school, a number of hostels available in the campus and some mega hostels are under construction. IIT (ISM) Dhanbad has 10 hostels - seven for boys and three for girls. All hostels have a mess, canteen, badminton courts and common halls (having TV and pool tables). The newly constructed hostels of boys and girls also have gyms in their compound, which are in addition to the main gym that is for all IIT (ISM) students. 
  • Each hostel has its own mess which has been outsourced to good catering and mess companies. They operate within the hostel allotted.

CAMPUS:

  • The IIT (ISM) Dhanbad campus comprises academic buildings, student hostels with a 100% residential facilities for faculty, staff, and students. The Health Center provides medical care to students, teachers, staff and their family members. IIT (ISM) Dhanbad is home to the Geological Museum, the Seismic Observatory, a Data Processing Laboratory, the Long Wall Mine Gallery and the Remote Sensing Laboratory.
  • The Central Library is automated and provides services seven days a week, catering to more than 5500 users belonging to 17 departments and centers. The library houses 80,000 books, 8000 Ph.D. thesis, and dissertations, 35,000 bound volumes of journals etc.
  • The campus has outdoor and indoor facilities for sports like athletics, cricket, football, basketball, volleyball, tennis, badminton, squash and table tennis. Interested students are also trained in combat sports such karate and boxing. Students choose between National Cadet Corps (NCC), National Service Scheme (NSS), National Sports Organisation (NSO) and yoga for an extracurricular activity.
  • The Student Activity Centre (SAC) has a swimming pool, gym, food cafe, and music club.

Academics and Faculty

Daily Routine:

  • Theoretical classes from 8am-12pm on Monday to Friday.
  • Proper practical classes on suitable days in the afternoon (1:30 onwards) for 3 hours.
  • Assignments for various subjects with a deadline are assigned time-to-time by the teaching faculty.
  • Projects go along with the normal routine under the guidance of professor allocated to students in the second year of the course. Project report submission is done at the end of the semester which carries some weight age in the CGPA.

Fees and Scholarships

The course fee (since 2016) is Rs 1,00,000 per semester. The following provisions are also approved:

  • SC/ST/Physically Disabled(PD) students get a complete tuition waiver.
  • The most economically backward students, whose annual family income is less than Rs 1 Lakh, get full remission of the fee.
  • The other economically backward students, whose annual family income between Rs 1 Lakh to Rs 5 Lakhs, get remission of two-third (2/3rd) of the fee.

Several scholarship options are available to students out of which one can be availed at a time. The following includes a list of scholarships sponsored by the institution as well as organizations.

  • Merit Cum Means Scholarship (to 25% of students enrolled in each course)
  • Merit Cum Means Freeship (to 10% of students enrolled in each course)
  • Budhwanti Mrig Memorial Educational Scholarship (for 2 girl students in each year)
  • ISM North American Alumni Scholarship for Mineral/Earth Science (one student from mineral or earth science branch)

Clubs and Associations

  • The Student Activity Centre (SAC) has a swimming pool, gym, food cafe, and music club. There are various clubs related to dramatics, dance, music, quizzing, literary, photography, robotics, etc. There is a students society by the name of IIT (ISM) Students Society (ISS).
  • Other activities include the student-published bi-annual campus newspaper Mailer Daemon, the annual inter-college cultural festival Srijan, the annual techno-management fest Concetto, the annual sports fest Parakram, and the Spring Fest Basant.
  • There are several clubs operating in IIT (ISM) like ISMDiaries, LITC, the Music Club, Toastmasters, FotoFreaks, Abhay Dramatics Club (ADC) and much more.

Entrance Exams & Admissions : For admission into IIT(ISM ) as the name suggests it is an IIT, so you need to clear JEE advanced. Then after counseling, you can get this premier institute. For opting b.tech in ECE, cut off was around 5600 in the Common rank list.

Entrance Exams & Admissions : The eligibility criteria for joining Indian Institute of Technology is clearing the JEE ADVANCED exam. The cut-off for the course is around 140 AIR.
