Nestled amid a green hamlet, SKMU has been a great choice for the students residing around the university’s nearby places. For over 30 years, Sido Kanhu Murmu University has focussed on academics and extracurriculars to forge strong-willed students. The university students have been heard relentlessly praising its faculties and education.

However, among the students’ cheer for the university, the lack of placements can also be heard loud and clear. There is a lack of space for the playground as well. Even though the students have been gaga over various aspects, in truth, if compared to other regional state universities, SKMU would be placed as a moderate university.

Average Academics Yet Commendable Faculties

Sido Kanhu Murmu University offers undergraduate, postgraduate and research programs. When it comes to academics, SKMU is yet to provide the most advanced of academics. However, the current curriculum is up-to-date. Sido Kanhu Murmu University's admission process is uncomplicated. Students who cannot afford to go to other places for studies or reside near the university usually take up admission at SKMU.

Despite all this, the faculty puts all their efforts into making optimum use of all the resources available to teach the students. The faculty members are also very reliable and have a friendly approach. They tend to address the student's queries at all times. The university's library is well-stocked with the necessary books.

The catalogue for the same is available online and offline. When it comes to the examination, students have often expressed on various online platforms that they are not immensely difficult. Most of them pass the exams and score average to good marks. 

Like most government universities, Sido Kanhu Murmu University also has nominal fees for the students. The administration also provides various scholarships to the students to ease the burden for students coming from economically marginalized backgrounds.

Well Maintained Infrastructure

In spite of SKMU having limited infrastructure, the college has dedicatedly maintained it. The classrooms are equipped with innovative classes. The equipment at different laboratories is in good numbers. Students generally do not face any issues with any of the available facilities at college.

While the college administration equally focuses on academics and extra-curricular activities, they have failed to expand on the playground. From the organic reviews online, students can often be seen complaining about the same. The campus is guarded well, making it safe and secure for the students and staff alike.

Comfortable Hostel Facilities

Sido Kanhu Murmu University has separate boys' and girls' hostel facilities. The hostel rooms are decked with all the necessary facilities required for the daily activities of the students. The hostel buildings are spacious and give ample room to move around to the students. One thing that the hostellers must abide by is the timings. They are required to be inside the hostel premises by 10 PM sharp. Failing to do so attracts strict disciplinary action. The students'student's accommodation comes with mess facilities.

Contrary to other university hostels, SKMU's mess facilities provide healthy and tasty food. Students have often expressed their joy in their hostel life. The hostel rooms are available at a very reasonable price. Like the campus, the hostel premises are also guarded, making them a safe space for students.

Lacking Placement Opportunities

It is evident that SKMU needs to work towards its placement opportunities. Students have constantly complained about the lack of placement opportunities on various search portals. Not many companies visit the college.

The ones who visit are mostly from the banking sector. The highest salary package offered was INR 4,00,000 LPA. The administration also does not provide any internship opportunities. All of this is a matter of great concern for the students.

Cheerful Campus Life

SKMU offers an entertaining campus life. It organises various events throughout the year in which the students can participate in. The pupils are also actively encouraged to participate in sports events and other extracurricular activities. There are no strict rules or regulations as such.

However, students are required to maintain their attendance. They do not need to follow any dress code or uniform as well. Students mainly from the surrounding areas and the state of Jharkhand take admission. Students from various backgrounds can be seen in the campus crowd.

Is SKMU Worth it?

For students who cannot afford to go outside the state for educational purposes or are coming from economically marginalised sections, Sido Kanhu Murmu University offers a great platform. It provides a holistic approach towards education. However, its major drawback lies in its inadequate placement opportunities. Without further delay, here is a look at the pros and cons of SKMU:
