The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research was started in the year 1962 and owes its inception to the vision of Late Sardar Pratap Singh Kairon along with the support of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru. The Institute became an autonomous body in 1967 under the Act of the Parliament. The PGIMER aspires to attain self-sufficiency in Post Graduate Medical to meet the needs of the community through various courses under Medical, Paramedical, and Nursing.
The Institute provides numerous programs at the Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Ph.D. levels. The selection to courses in the field of Medical, Paramedical and Nursing offered by PGIMER admission 2022 depends mostly on the entrance test conducted by the Institute. The PGI, Chandigarh also accepts the National Level Competitive Examination scores for selected programs.
The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research offers Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral programs in a variety of disciplines.

The admission process occurs in two sessions, once in the month of January and next in July. The interested candidates can obtain the application form online from the official website of PGI, Chandigarh. The shortlisted applicants are required to pay the fees as per the PGIMER fee structure before the due date to avoid cancellation of the admission.
The admission to the programs offered by PGIMER, Chandigarh is based on the score secured by the applicants in the entrance test conducted by the Institute or at National Level.
The Institute offers an Undergraduate program in the field of Paramedical and Nursing which includes B.Sc, B.Sc Med. Tech, B.Sc Nursing, and Bachelor of Physical Therapies. The duration of all the Bachelor’s program ranges between 3 to 4 academic years comprising of six to eight semesters respectively. The Bachelor of Physical Therapies extends to a period of 4 ½ years including the internship.
To seek admission to the UG courses the candidate must successfully complete his/ her higher secondary education in the field of science from a recognized board or council. The selection of the applicant depends on merit and entrance test conducted by PGI, Chandigarh.

The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research offers Doctor of Medicine (DM) in twenty-three different specializations at the Master’s level. The duration of the program is 3 academic years consisting of six semesters.
The candidates applying for admission to a DM program must have completed MD in the corresponding subjects from a University recognized by the Medical Council of India. The admission process is based on the applicant’s performance in the entrance test organized by the Institute. A valid score in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-PG) is also accepted for admission.

At the Master’s level, the Institute provides MD, MS, M.Ch, MDS, Masters of Hospital Administration and Public Health, M.Sc, M.Sc Med. Tech and M.Sc Nursing in the stream of Medical, Paramedical, and Nursing. The duration of most of the Postgraduate programs except M.Sc, M.Sc Nursing, M.Sc Med. Tech and Masters of Hospital Administration and Public health is 3 years. The remaining courses last for 2 academic years till completion.
The admission to the PG program is based on the entrance test conducted by PGIMER or NEET - PG. Only the candidates with a Graduation Degree in MBBS, BDS, MS, or B.Sc are eligible to apply to the respective courses.

The Ph.D. program in all the medical and non-medical disciplines also forms a part of the courses offered by the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research. The duration of the Ph.D. course ranges from a minimum of 3 years to a maximum of 6 academic years.
The Institute lays it mandatory for the interested candidates to hold a Master’s Degree in a relevant field of study to become eligible to apply for the Research program. The selection is completely based on merit.

Under the stream of Medical, Post MD certificate courses in Cytopathology, Biotechnology and Immunopathology are available. The Institute offers these courses for a duration of 1 year. The session for Cytopathology and Biotechnology starts in the month of January whereas Post MD Certification in Immunopathology has two sessions both in January and July every year.
The aspirants must have completed MD in Pathology or Medicine/ Mv. Sc to apply for the certification. The candidates are shortlisted on the basis of their past academic performance.
