“NIT Agartala is ranked among the top NITs for its great education coupled with exceptional placements. Yet, it sees various lacking features in its infrastructure that are a hindrance to the students.”

It is quite well known that NIT Agartala is counted among the top 10 NITs in the country. The institute hits the right chord with a balance of good academics, great placements, and a diverse campus life. The combinations of these and other key features make it one of the sought-after National Institute of Technology in the country.

Even with the features mentioned above, NIT Agartala has in fact faltered in few of the aspects. For example, internet connectivity. It's a constant source of complaint by the students for its poor speed. The same goes for the laboratories that are built for a smaller capacity as compared to the number of students. To add to this, the college's location also creates a hurdle.

Although the institute is surrounded by lush greenery all around, it is located approximately 20 kilometres away from the city. Thus making it a big hassle for the students to find transport to visit the city for daily necessities or otherwise.

Academics at its Core

Being an institution that holds a prestigious position, NIT Agartala's core focus is surely academics. The institute offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programs. Although the main area or field of study is technology, it also provides courses on other subjects. 

However, in turn, students expressed mixed feelings on various online portals. While some are greatly satisfied, others are hugely disappointed. They have expressed that the course curriculum is outdated. Furthermore, the course structure has been designed in the traditional format rather than incorporating an innovative approach.

Such a mundane approach mars the students' interests. It must be brought into perspective that the students at NIT Agartala are some of the brightest students in the country. Their thirst for knowledge and passion for innovation is unbound. An institute like NIT Agartala must work towards enriching its students and supporting them in their endeavours. 

Many students and alumni have unanimously agreed online on various social media platforms that the institution makes its students industry-ready. There are currently more than 10 departments and over 300 programs that are being offered to the students. Among its 300+ programs, its flagship programs are BTech, MBA, MTech, and MCA.

High Course Fees

Even though it is a government institution, the course fees at NIT Agartala are expensive. For its most popular course, BTech, students need to spend INR 5,00,000 for the entire 4 years of the course. Similarly, for MBA, the fee stands at INR 1,30,000 for 2 years, and for MTech, the fee is INR 1,40,000. For MCA, the current fee is a whooping INR 2,10,000 for 2 years.

Apart from the academic fees, the students also need to spend on their accommodations and other necessities. Taking everything into consideration, for many students, it becomes quite difficult to afford it.

However, the administration provides all the necessary support for the students who want to apply for easily available student loans. The institution also provides various scholarships to the students to help them pay their tuition fees.

High Qualified Faculties

Almost all the faculty members that NIT Agartala recruits have a doctoral degree. This maintains a standard among the professors. Such in-depth knowledge about a particular subject seeps into the teaching pedagogy of the professors. They use various interactive methods to make the lectures exciting. Thus, the students' attention is also retained. In addition, the faculty is always available to help the students with their problems.

The faculty members always try to explain complex problems in simple terms for an easier understanding of the subject. Even if a student faces challenges for a particular problem repeatedly, the faculties always extend their help. 

Despite this, students have often lamented about a few professors delivering monotonous lectures and using traditional teaching techniques. For this reason, students rapidly lose interest in the subject and tend to self-teach themselves through various methods. Perhaps, for such faculties, the management can arrange special training to improve teachers' teaching skills. 

Awe-inspiring Infrastructure

NIT Agartala's campus is located amidst a picturesque backdrop. With diverse flora and fauna all around, it makes for a perfect setting for academics. The institute has built advanced facilities using the latest technologies. The central library hosts an impressive collection of books, magazines, journals, periodicals, etc. These collections are available both online and offline. Further, the computer labs are present department-wise. 

In spite of having many such good facilities, several drawbacks have been reported by students online. For instance, the classrooms lack much modern equipment which their counterparts have installed. Similarly, many of the laboratory equipment are outdated. Being a government institution, NIT Agartala receives a good amount of funding for its infrastructure. However, it needs to be implemented properly in areas that the students engage with most. 

The campus houses a medical care unit that has adequate medical officers. The medical centre is open to students and staff. In addition, a bank and a post office are also present on campus. The one thing that could be included in the facilities is a commodity shop.

As the campus is far away from the city, an in-campus commodity shop will make it easier for the students to get their daily necessities faster. Food forms an integral part of the student's life. The institute has a canteen inside its premises. Although the quality of food is average. 

NIT Agartala has an impressive sports facility. Various indoor and outdoor games are present to keep the students physically and mentally engaged. The college has multiple grounds for specific sports. One the students must mandatorily participate in is NCC or NSS. Enlisting themselves in such youth organisations instils discipline and awareness among students.

It is beneficial for the students in the long run. Participation in such organisations is also appreciated by other professional organisations, which boosts career opportunities. 

Pleasant Hostel Facilities

NIT Agartala hosts a comfortable student accommodation facility. The hostel facilities are separate for boys and girls. The boys' hostel has a capacity of 3000, while for the girls, it is 500. The hostel includes all the amenities required to conduct the daily activities smoothly.

The hostel also has an internet connection. In addition, the premises have a 24x7 security surveillance system that makes it a safe and secure environment. The hostel fee is around INR 31,20,000.

High and Stable Placement Record

NIT Agartala is famous for its placements. Over the years, it has maintained its placement record. The current placement record is above 80%. It is important to note that many of the students also opt for higher studies. The Centre for Career Development (CCD) is responsible for the institution's recruitment operations.

It helps the students in securing jobs and trains them for placements through various training and tests. The CCD also advises various companies to come for on-campus recruitment. Many top recruiters have repeatedly visited and recruited the students from NIT Agartala. The highest package that students bagged is INR 36 LPA, while the average package is INR 6 LPA.

Captivating Campus Life

Students at NIT Agartala enjoy an entertaining campus life. There are various events, including the annual cultural fest, tech fest, sports, and many more, that happen all year round. Furthermore, the cultural fest invites eminent celebrities, singers and more to perform. It is notable that the institute has a great coding culture.

Apart from the previously mentioned NCC and NSS, students can also enrol in various clubs as per their choice. These clubs also arrange events for a vibrant campus life. In addition, it's often noted by the students that there is a great bond between the students, and it has a zero-ragging culture.

Students from across the country and from various communities come together to study at the college. This is so because admission is based on national-level entrance exams. There is also a healthy balance between male and female students. NIT Agartala has one of its kind incubation centres supported by the renowned ISRO. This pumps up the students towards embarking on an entrepreneurial journey.

Dress Code and Rules

There is no specific dress code or uniform that the students have to strictly follow. However, on formal occasions, students are expected to dress as per the requirements. Barring the strict attendance 75% policy, there are no stringent rules and regulations that need to be followed. However, students are expected to follow the basic rules implemented for the institute to function well.

Is NIT Agartala Good?

NIT Agartala is not only good but also the best in many aspects. It provides top-class education and one of the best research facilities. Not only this, but the faculty at the institute possesses a high level of knowledge coupled with unique teaching practices. 

Apart from academics, the institution actively encourages students to participate in various extracurricular activities and events organised on campus. More importantly, taking everything together, the rigour of the academic life and the exposure that the students receive make them industry-ready. This is evident in its placement record as well. 

Like any other reputed institution, NIT Agartala is not without faults. Infrastructural features, and course curriculum structure, are among the few key areas that need improvement. Overall, NIT Agartala is a good choice to spend one's academic life, provided they are able to crack the tough entrance exam.
