“Nestled in the picturesque city of Udaipur, Rajasthan, MLSU is a distinguished state university that has a wide range of courses and thriving campus culture. Still, the absence of good placement opportunities makes the students wonder if the beauty is worth it after all.”

Set in one of the most beautiful cities in the country, Udaipur, Rajasthan, Mohanlal Sukhadia University is a reputed state university of Rajasthan that offers several courses in different areas at a minimum standard. The overall quality of academics and career opportunities provided by the university differs for each department. However, student politics is active on campus, and the students are recommended to stay away from political activities as the university has a strict attendance policy.

As it is a state university, the evaluation and marking scheme is more rigid, and hence, students are advised to be up-to-date with their studies. Also, because of the same reason, the marks allotted to students are of higher value. Additionally, students have the opportunity to participate in numerous extracurricular activities that can enhance their overall college experience.

Besides the academic prospects at the university, students can explore the city during the weekends and holidays as there are several places for sightseeing. However, the students are mostly burdened with loads of work, leaving them no time to relax and enjoy the city. Even then, the university has failed to offer promising placement opportunities to the students in the past years.

Multiple Disciplines & Courses

MLSU offers a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs in different disciplines, which include Science, Commerce, Management, Law, Commerce, Humanities, Education and Social Science. The prominent fields in which various bachelor’s and master’s programs are available at the university are as follows.

Apart from the undergraduate and postgraduate courses, the university also offers PhD programs in various fields with different specializations, which are of great interest. The research facilities are explicitly designed to enable students to have access to sufficient resources and assistance.

Admission to professional courses, such as Engineering and Law programs, is based on the marks obtained by the students on the national and state-level entrance examinations. Students must have a minimum percentage of marks in class 12 to get admission to the other undergraduate programs and have valid degree certificates for the postgraduate programs.

The academic curriculum set for each program is curated to ensure that the students gain enough knowledge about the respective subject at a deeper level. The curriculums include projects, assignments and regular practical sessions for the required courses, which helps in the overall development of educated professionals.

Affordable Fee Structure

The tuition fees for the different courses offered by the university are reasonable and affordable for all students. The average costs for the prominent courses, such as BA, B.Sc, B.Com, and MBA programs, range from INR 7,260 to INR 1,50,000. The tuition fees vary for each course based on the curriculum and duration.

Qualified and Experienced Professors

The university has well-educated faculty members for each of its departments, who are qualified enough to clear the students’ doubts and impart the required knowledge, especially for departments like Commerce, Physics, Engineering, and so on. The teachers use different teaching methods to keep the students engaged and interested in the subject. They are easily approachable and are well-equipped to assist the research students with their projects. 

The teachers ensure the classes are conducted regularly and the syllabi are completed within the stipulated period. However, the students are required to put in extra effort to obtain an average grade. The professors include audio-visual materials to make the classes more interactive, which also helps the students understand the concepts better. 

As the learning process is different from one student to another, the teaching methods devised by the professors may not be helpful to all students. In such cases, they have the liberty to approach their teachers with doubts, which are always welcome. They also encourage students to be involved in projects and assignments outside the classroom, which can help them expand their horizons. 

The teachers also distribute printed as well as soft electronic study materials to help the students be well-prepared for the exams. They are also asked to refer to the books available in the library to improve their knowledge.

Reasonably Good Infrastructure

The university has comparatively moderate infrastructure, which includes the necessary facilities to provide a proper educational atmosphere. The campus is widespread across a substantial area, with separate buildings for each department, administrative offices, a library, and several open spaces. There are different lecture halls and conference rooms where the students can attend guest lectures, seminars and presentations.

The classrooms of the university are primarily modern and well-maintained, with audio-visual facilities to contribute to the interactive learning environment. Each department has separate laboratories, well-equipped with the devices and instruments essential for practical experiments and research activities.

The university also has a robust IT infrastructure with internet connectivity throughout the campus. There are computer centers on campus which can be used for research purposes online.

The university library is an integral part of the infrastructure, which has extensive collections of printed and digital resources that cater to the academic and research needs of the students. Apart from reference books, the collections available at the library include journals, theses, guides, magazines, newspapers, and electronic databases.

To ensure the students have a balanced lifestyle at the university along with their academics, they are provided with ample sports facilities, gymnasiums and recreational spaces. These facilities offer the students the chance to indulge in different sports and games of their interest.

The university also has canteens where different types of food and beverages are available at affordable prices. These canteens are spacious with adequate seating areas and are well-maintained and cleaned regularly.

Below Average Hostels

Although the university provides hostel facilities for boys and girls within the campus, most students prefer to stay outside the campus in PGs. The reason for this is the lack of facilities and amenities available in the hostels and the poor quality of food served in the mess. However, a good hostel experience is assured, and according to past students, there is nothing that surpasses the hostel mates when it comes to news about the students as well as professors. 

The hostels comprise 500 rooms with attached bathrooms, and the buildings are kept clean by the staff. The mess is hygienic and serves timely meals in large dining areas. To ensure the safety of the students, the university has appointed wardens and security guards at all gates.

The yearly fees for the university hostels come up to INR 40,000 per year, including the mess charges. The average rents for PGs available around the campus are around INR 5,000 per month, which does not include food. 

Vibrant Campus Life

The significant activity on campus is student politics, with several parties and student leaders. Apart from that, there are several clubs and associations for students interested in both technical and academic activities. In terms of sports, students can join NCC, NSS and other teams that participate in inter-university and intra-university tournaments. 

Students must maintain a proper attendance record along with the other activities as the university has a strict attendance policy. If students do not attend the required number of classes, they will not be allowed to appear for the end-semester exams.

The university organizes cultural and academic events, which include fests, seminars, conferences, and workshops. Besides that, the university provides the space for students to nurture their creativity and skills in extracurricular activities such as music, dance, arts, etc. Students are given opportunities to showcase their talents and engage in intellectual activities.

Apart from participating in the events and fests, students are advised to create their own friend groups based on their likes and interests to enhance their college experience. The university promotes social interaction to build a network of contacts.

As the university is located in a charming city, students also have the option to explore the city, visit cafes and historical sites, and spend quality time with their friends by the lakeside during the holidays and weekends.

Diversity on Campus

Even though most of the students are from the state itself, the university has students from a variety of regions and backgrounds, which forms a culturally rich atmosphere. The gender ratio is almost equal, and the deserving students are provided with equal opportunities regardless of the other criteria.

Dress Code

There are uniforms for students pursuing Law and Management programs at the university. Apart from these courses, the other students are allowed to wear modest, decent clothes that abide by the basic dress code prescribed by the university.

Disappointing Placements

The university does not provide satisfactory results in terms of delivering good placement opportunities. The lack of a proper placement cell results in the absence of good companies participating in the placement drives. The leading company that participates in the placement is ICICI Bank. Though there are a few companies that offer jobs to graduates, the salary packages are low. 

Students are forced to find jobs on their own after their degree completion. The companies that participate in the placement drives conducted at the university mainly offer appointments in sales-related positions. Fewer companies provide other job positions apart from the local companies.

According to the previous years’ placement records, the average salary package offered to students was between INR 2,00,000 LPA and INR 3,00,000 LPA. The companies are expected to increase their salary through the years based on the performance of the students.

Nevertheless, students from Law programs are offered good positions in good Law firms, with salary packages of up to INR 30,00,000 LPA, based on their merit and performance in the interviews.

In addition to the lack of placement opportunities, students are not given enough time to do internships, which affects their chances of gaining experience in their respective fields.

Overall Impression of MLSU

It can be concluded that MLSU is a good option for students who intend to pursue professional degree courses, such as Engineering, Law, and Science programs like Physics. In terms of career prospects after graduation, the university has not shown any promising records in the past. 

However, the faculty members and the facilities available at the university are impressive, especially for research programs. If the students cannot get admission to other reputed universities or colleges, they are good to opt for MLSU to pursue their education.
