“Regarded as one of the top private universities in the state, IEC University is renowned for its robust placement records and modern infrastructure. Apart from some minor shortcomings concerning the quality of academics, the university offers a vibrant and dynamic campus experience.”

Located in Solan, Himachal Pradesh, IEC University is a private university established in 2012 and accredited by NAAC as an A-graded university. Primarily known for its Engineering programs, the university offers academic programs across disciplines ranging from Law, Pharmacy, and Sciences to Commerce, Humanities and Management. 

Although the university has been praised for its placement opportunities and modern infrastructure, the overall quality of education offered has received mixed responses from the students. While most students have mentioned that it is an excellent university for higher education with an enriching learning environment, some students have a different opinion.

Along with the mixed reviews from its students, the university's relatively high course fee structure makes it inaccessible for students from different backgrounds. In any case, it is regarded as one of the best private universities in the state, and most of its courses are recognised by national and international educational associations.

Well-Structured Courses

As mentioned above, IEC University is regarded as one of the best universities in the Himachal region, offering a wide range of academic programs in various fields. It's known for its well-structured course curricula, which are much appreciated by the students. Although the university is chiefly known for its Engineering courses, its academic programs in the other disciplines have also received recognition from different educational authorities. 

The courses at the university are designed to provide students with the relevant knowledge, training and other necessary skills to enable them to excel in their professional careers. The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs in Engineering, Commerce, Management, Pharmacy, Allied Health Sciences, Law, and Basic and Applied Science.

Another distinct feature of the academic scenario at the university is the availability of both full-time and part-time Engineering programs. Students who are working professionals can pursue their postgraduate studies through the master's programs available in different disciplines. The university also offers a part-time MBA course.

In addition to that, students who prefer to migrate from their current university can also enrol in the university through its lateral entry scheme. However, such students must be eligible based on the university's admission criteria to secure seats.

Course Fee Structure

As it is a private university, the course fees at IEC University are slightly higher than those of public, government-aided institutions. The annual fees for each course differ based on the program type, specialisation, course duration and other factors. Moreover, the university course fees are approved by the government.

According to the latest fee structure, the annual fees for B.Tech programs are between INR 1,05,000 and INR 1,10,000. The course fees for M.Tech programs are INR 1,00,000 for part-time students and INR 80,000 for full-time students. Similarly, the annual costs for part-time and full-time students pursuing an MBA are INR 90,000 and INR 1,17,000, respectively. The course fees for BCA and MCA programs are INR 50,000 and INR 65,000, respectively.

The annual course fees for Basic and Applied Sciences programs range from INR 40,000 to INR 65,000, INR 35,000 to INR 55,000 for Commerce and Business Management courses, INR 70,000 to INR 80,000 for Law programs, and INR 24,000 to INR 68,250 for Humanities and Social Sciences courses. The course fees for Allied Health Science programs fall between INR 80,000 and INR 1,10,000. Based on the specialisation, the approved fees for PhD programs also range between INR 80,000 and INR 1,00,000.

Attendance Policy

The university does not have any strict rules regarding the student's attendance. In other words, students are not mandated to maintain a particular attendance to continue their studies at the university. Even then, students with meagre attendance will be subjected to disciplinary action.

Mixed Bag of Professors

While there are well-qualified and knowledgeable professors with adequate teaching experience at the university, some faculty members are said to be freshers with limited teaching experience in their respective fields. Nevertheless, most professors are dedicated to imparting their students quality education and necessary training. Additionally, the professors are said to be easy to approach and take feedback from the students to provide them a welcoming learning environment.

As mentioned, some professors new to the teaching profession lack the necessary experience or industry exposure reflected in their classes. Such professors also fall behind in offering a well-rounded academic experience with innovative and interactive teaching methods.

Overall, the professors at the university have received praise for being well-qualified and offering an approachable atmosphere. Though the senior professors are more appreciated by the students, the general quality of teaching is considerably better than that of other private universities in the country.

Large & Modern Infrastructure

The university boasts a well-facilitated, modern infrastructure sprawling across a vast lush green campus. With adequately equipped academic and recreational facilities, the university's infrastructure is praised by all students unanimously. The university's infrastructure includes glossary facilities and amenities to ensure students have a conducive learning environment. The university also has a Wi-Fi-enabled campus with uninterrupted access to high-speed internet. 

The university has spacious, modern classrooms equipped with the latest technology and audio-visual aids, such as projectors, smartboards, etc., which enable interactive learning. Additionally, the classroom seating arrangements are elevated for students and designed so that all students have a direct view of the professors and the boards. This ensures a more intimate learning environment despite the large number of students.

Each relevant department has well-facilitated laboratories equipped with instruments and devices to ensure students have a well-rounded practical learning experience. The university has included modern technology and equipment to ensure students have a hands-on learning experience and are well-prepared for the professional world.

The well-designed library at the university is famous for its vast collection of printed and electronic resources, available for all disciplines. The library is well-designed and has a seating capacity to accommodate more than 200 students. The computer systems available within the library have high-speed internet connectivity, which enables students to access online databases and resources. The digital facilities available within the library include a photocopy machine, scanner and printing facilities.

In addition to the academic infrastructure, the university also boasts a well-established sports complex with different facilities for various sports, such as courts and fields for basketball, football, tennis, cricket, badminton, volleyball and a large athletic field. It also has several facilities for indoor sports such as table tennis, billiards, etc. It also has a well-equipped gymnasium to ensure students maintain their physical fitness alongside their academics.

The university has a large canteen on campus that serves multi-cuisine food and beverages at affordable prices. Ample seating areas for students and faculties are available within the university canteen. It is one of the primary hang-out spots for students and is conveniently located within walking distance of different academic blocks.

In short, the university has an excellent infrastructure that is well-equipped with the necessary facilities and amenities to cater to the academic and extracurricular needs of the students. As a relatively newer university, the facilities are well-maintained and match the current educational standards and requirements.

Simple Hostels

The university provides housing facilities for male and female students, who can apply for the same during course admissions. The hostels are located within the university campus, and different types of rooms are available based on the preferences and needs of the students. 

Basic facilities and amenities are available in the hostels. Students have separate beds, tables, chairs and cupboards in each room. They also have access to essential amenities such as laundry facilities, attached bathrooms, internet connection, hot water supply, etc. The rooms and hostel premises are well-maintained and regularly cleaned by the designated staff.

Timely meals are served through the mess facilities. The general hygiene and cleanliness is maintained throughout the hostel buildings. However, the variety and food quality are less satisfactory than the other hostels. 

24/7 security services and CCTV surveillance assure students' safety and security. The hostels also have strict rules and regulations regarding the curfew timings and guest visitations.

Based on the recent fee structure, the annual hostel fees for boys and girls are around INR 65,000. In addition, students must pay INR 5000 as a caution deposit, which will be refunded at the end of their stay. 

Private hostels and PGs are also available within the university's radius and for nominal rent. Students who prefer to stay off-campus can opt for such private accommodation facilities.

Enjoyable Campus Life

Apart from offering numerous academic programs, the university also has a plethora of opportunities for students to pursue their interests and passions in extracurricular activities. The annual cultural, tech and sports fests the university hosts are so popular among students that they look forward to these events. Along with these grand fests, the university also organises multiple student events and activities.

As there are different disciplines, several clubs and societies encourage students to participate in various activities, competitions and events. The departmental societies also conduct academic events, such as seminars, workshops, guest lectures and competitions, that help students learn more about their respective fields and career prospects. 

The cultural and tech clubs are mainly led by students, which helps them interact with like-minded individuals, nurture their talents, develop leadership skills, and share innovative ideas.

The university's annual cultural and tech events make the campus experience vibrant and enriching with various activities and competitions. These events are refreshing for students who are burdened with academic pressure. Students are encouraged to showcase their talents and create long-lasting memories with their peers. The annual sports meet includes competitions and tournaments between disciplines, instilling a sense of community and healthy competitive spirit among the students.

Diversity on Campus

Most of the students that constitute the university's student body are from different parts of the state, limiting its regional diversity. However, it has a substantial international presence, with students from around the world participating in the student community. Even though there are differences in the number of male and female students within some departments, the overall gender ratio is balanced. 

Due to its high course fees, fewer students are from underrepresented communities, affecting its socioeconomic diversity. Nonetheless, scholarships and other financial aid have made education here more accessible to students from all walks of life.

Dress Code

In order to help students blend in, irrespective of their background, the university has a strict dress code that must be followed by all students. It also has a defined dress code for students from particular departments.

Strong Placement Records

With the help of its active training and placement department, the university has achieved successful placement rates over the years. According to records from previous years, the majority of its students were offered job and internship placements by reputable companies and organisations in the country. Students from different disciplines are offered placement across several sectors and industries. 

Based on last year's statistics, over 540 students were offered jobs, and 90 students received internship offers from 97 companies. Most placements were obtained by Engineering, Pharmacy and Allied Health Science students, followed by Management students.

Final Verdict on IEC University

It can be concluded that IEC University is a wise choice for students who reside in Himachal Pradesh as it is one of the top private universities in the state. As it offers a wide array of courses, students interested in pursuing a particular field can find their desired course and a supportive environment here. Although there are a few drawbacks regarding the varying quality of professors and comparatively expensive courses, the general testament from its students is reassuring. 

Moreover, the high placement rates and co-curricular opportunities help students to develop successful careers in their respective fields. Students are, however, advised to connect with current and former students to learn more about the academic possibilities at the university.
