The college was established to commemorate shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The philanthropists and the well-wishers of the city Moga and the surrounding area set up the college aiming to provide the all-round development of the students by laying special stress on moral upliftment along with other extracurricular activities. In light of the great sentence ‘GHARIYE SURAT MUT MAN BUDHI’ Guru Nanak education trust was formed which was also further set up as a managing committee. This committee made the foundations of the college strong, during the years 1971 to 1978. After this time, the whole management of the college came under Shrimoni Gurduwara Parbhandak Committee (SGPC) Amritsar. In the initial years the commencement for higher education, the college was only for boys with the subjects of Arts. Later, in 1991-92 co-education was introduced.

Guru Nanak College, Moga gives a message to all the student that coming to GNC is only the first step, and there is lot to follow, much more to be achieved. They say that it is great to dream, but greater is to strive and to make it a reality. Visualizing Guru Nanak college at the zenith of achievement, beholding her jewels, GNC resolve that they will never allow any evils of communalism, untruth or intolerance triumph over the precious lives of the college who are entrusted in our hands with great faith and assurance. They want to see All the students at GNC achieving high in all forms and aspects, by providing them a solid ground to build their precious career and further make them capable to face the competitive world without any fear or hesitation.

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Sri Amritsar (SGPC), is an apex body of the Sikhs residing all over the world, is a religious charitable and humanitarian organization. They believe that they are a mirror to the past and a vision for the future. “A reminder of things past, of successes, hopes and dreams fulfilled and a promise of even better things to come”. This is what hundreds of years of functioning for this organization is all about.  Besides managing the Sikh shrines, this organization runs a number of educational institutions, charitable hospitals and homes for the physically/mentally challenged people. Though the primary objective of the SGPC is religious, they also performs multidimensional functions for inculcating high ethical values, humanistic outlook, healthy habits and scientific temper among the community through its educational institutions.
