Established in 2006, Adikavi Nannaya University (AKNU) is a public university in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh. Since its inception, the university has maintained a good reputation for its academic excellence. It offers a wide range of courses in different disciplines, which includes Engineering, Science, Humanities and Social Sciences. 

According to the reviews of the current students, the university is recommended to those looking for challenging and rewarding academics. Even though academics at the university are challenging, most professors are always willing to help their students. 

Alongside academics, the campus is lively, with many extracurricular activities for the students to get involved in. Another enticing factor about the university is its affordable course fee structure with relaxations for the underrepresented categories. 

Although the university is renowned for its remarkable academics, the placement opportunities offered to its students are mediocre. However, a dedicated placement cell at the university works towards getting the students good opportunities.

As mentioned above, the university offers a variety of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral-level courses in various fields, such as Engineering, Technology, Science, Humanities and Social Sciences. These courses prepare students for careers in their respective fields by giving them updated knowledge, hands-on training and practical experience. The university offers different resources and support services to help students succeed in their chosen fields.

The prominent courses offered by the university are Engineering programs, which have also seen higher success rates than the other programs. In any case, the best courses offered by the university at the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels are listed below:

• B.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering, Communication Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering
• M.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering and Mechanical Engineering

As it is apparent from the courses mentioned above, the best departments at the university are the Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, and Electronics and Communication Engineering branches. Therefore, the doctoral programs in these streams are also highly regarded.

Admission to the courses offered by the university is entirely based on the students’ marks obtained in the state-level common entrance tests. Students are advised to consider their interests, skills, and career goals and connect with other university students before they join the course.

The university follows a strict attendance policy for all students, which mandates a minimum attendance requirement of 75% each semester, without which students will not be allowed to appear for the end-semester examinations.

The course fees at the university vary according to the courses and the categories of students. However, the costs are generally affordable compared to the other universities in the country. The course fees are significantly lower for students in underrepresented groups, such as SC/ST categories. 

The average tuition fees for courses such as B.Tech, B.Sc, B.Com and M.Tech programs are INR 60,000, INR 25,000, INR 20,000 and INR 75,000 for General category students, and for SC/ST students, the fees are INR 12,000, INR 5000, INR 4000 and INR 15,000, respectively. The university also offers many scholarships and financial aid options to help students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

Well Qualified & Dedicated Faculties

The professors at the university are generally well-qualified with a strong understanding of their subject matter. They have adequate knowledge and experience with the passion to impart quality education to their students. The professors are known to be approachable and able to communicate the topics effectively to the students. Supportive teachers are always willing to go the extra mile to help students succeed.

Besides being approachable and helpful, the professors are also actively involved in research, keeping them up-to-date on the latest developments in their field. Even though most professors are good at teaching, some are not as good as others. The quality of faculty members differs from one department to another. 

Overall, students in the past and present years have mostly good opinions about their professors, with few exceptions. According to most students, the professors typically offer vital support to their students, readily addressing questions, offering feedback, and serving as valuable sources of career guidance.

Well-Equipped Infrastructure

The university’s infrastructure is good, with modern facilities and well-maintained buildings. The university is a relatively recent establishment and boasts new facilities and well-maintained amenities. The campus is spacious and green, with plenty of trees and open spaces. The classrooms are well-equipped, and the laboratories are well-stocked with the latest technology.

The university classrooms are air-conditioned and equipped with projectors and whiteboards to enhance the interactive learning environment for the students. Every Engineering and Science department has the necessary equipment to conduct experiments, giving students a wholesome, practical learning experience. In addition to that, the laboratories are well-maintained and clean.

The university has an impressive library, an extensive collection of books and journals, and several online resources to cater to the academic needs of students from all disciplines. The library has ample seating to accommodate several students at once, where they can read and study peacefully.

Based on online platform reviews, the students enjoy the sports complex available on campus. It has a variety of facilities and is a great place to relax and have fun with friends. The facilities available at the sports complex include a swimming pool, a basketball court and a football field.

The university canteen is open from morning till night and offers a variety of food options, including North Indian, South Indian and Continental dishes. The canteen is hygienic, clean, and an excellent place for students to hang out with friends. The staff is friendly and is always willing to accommodate special requests. The prices at the canteen are reasonable. However, it can get crowded during peak hours, which may delay the food delivery.

Expansive Housing Facilities

The university has two hostels, one for boys and one for girls. Both the hostels are located within the university campus. The boys' hostel can accommodate around 1000 students, whereas the girls' hostel can accommodate up to 500 students. The hostels have all the necessary amenities, such as air-conditioning, libraries, laundry facilities, and recreation rooms.

The hostels are clean and well-maintained, with staff always available to help students with their problems. The hostel admissions are based on merit. Students who are admitted to the university are automatically considered for hostel accommodation.

Timely meals, which are considered reasonable, are served in the dining halls, with a variety of options to choose from. The food at the hostel mess is always hot and fresh, cooked hygienically and served in clean dining areas. 

The university assures students’ safety and security, with security guards placed at the gates 24/7. To ensure the students’ safety, the hostels also have strict rules and regulations which are to be followed by the inmates. 

The hostel fee is the same as all the hostel rooms. However, there is a difference in the hostel fees for boys and girls. The monthly payments for boys are INR 3000, while for girls' hostel, they are INR 2500.

In addition to the on-campus accommodation facilities, there are many PGs near the university, with various options to suit different budgets and needs. The PGs are located within walking distance of the university. The fees for private PGs vary depending on the amenities offered and the location. However, the general rent range is between INR 5000 and INR 10,000 monthly.

Vibrant & Engaging Campus Life

The university has a vibrant and active campus life with several extracurricular activities and events for the students to be involved in. The university has various student organisations, clubs, and cultural and sports events. The campus is also located in a beautiful and serene environment, which enables students to relax and have fun with their friends.

There are over a hundred student organisations and clubs at the university, which cover a wide range of interests, such as dance, music, drama, debate and social service. In addition, the university hosts a number of cultural events throughout the year, providing the students with opportunities to perform and showcase their talents and skills.

The university also has several sports teams, including cricket, football, volleyball and basketball. It also conducts various sports tournaments and matches throughout the year.

According to the students, the campus life at the university is very engaging, with a lot of extracurricular activities to get involved in alongside academics. The cultural events at the university are delightful, especially the music festivals. The numerous sports teams enable students to pursue their sporting activities. The university generally offers a wholesome campus experience with friendly and welcoming students. 

Diversity on Campus

The university has a diverse student population, with students from all over the country and various backgrounds. It is committed to supporting students, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds. There are a number of organisations and clubs at the university that are focused on promoting diversity and inclusivity. 

According to the statistics, around 25% of students belong to marginalised groups, and the university has a faculty of over 100 members from diverse backgrounds. In terms of gender diversity, there is an almost balanced ratio of male, female and other gender students on campus, who are provided equal opportunities.

Dress Code

Although there is no defined uniform for the students, the university has a set dress code applied to all students and professors. The clothing must be neat, clean and appropriate for the setting. Students are refrained from wearing clothing with profanity, offensive language or images. They are not allowed to wear revealing clothes and can only wear shoes. 

Khakis, jeans, skirts or dresses are all appropriate clothing for everyday classes. For special occasions, students are allowed to wear suits or dresses. 

Moderate Job Placement Prospects

The placement records at AKNU are average at best. The placement process at the university is organised by the placement cell, which works with companies to recruit students and provide students with the skills and training necessary to be successful in the job market.

Although it is moderate, the placement records have shown improvement in recent years. The university is working to provide successful career opportunities to its students by partnering with more companies and supporting students in developing their skills.

According to the previous year’s records, 75% of students participating in the placement process were placed. The highest salary package offered to the students was INR 3.60 LPA, and the average package was INR 2.50. As mentioned earlier, most students who got placement from the university were from the Engineering department. 

Overall Impression of AKNU

In conclusion, Adikavi Nannaya University (AKNU) is a good university offering various courses in various fields. With its strong academic reputation and dedicated faculty members, the university is considered among the top educational institutions in the state. It also offers a variety of resources and support services to ensure the students succeed in their respective areas.

In addition to providing quality education, the university has an active campus life with multiple extracurricular activities to engage in. Although the placement records are lesser than its contemporaries, the university has gradually improved its placement rate. 

In other words, the university is recommended by past graduates to students who intend to pursue their education with a well-rounded university experience. However, aspiring students must obtain the required marks in the common entrance tests to be allotted seats in their desired branch.
