As per NTA Press release, out of 13.11 lakhs registered candidates, 12,58,136 students appeared for JEE Main 2025 session 1. The JEE Main session 1 results was released by the NTA on Feb 12, 2025
As per the NTA, a total of 13.11 lakh students were registered for JEE Main 2025 Session 1, where 12,58,136 students appeared for the exam. JEE Main 2025 Session 1 was conducted from Jan 22-31, 2025. JEE Main result 2025 for Session 1 was released on Feb 11, 2025. Among the registered candidates, 95.93% candidates appeared for the examination in the scheduled dates.
A total of 4,66,358 candidates appeared in general category, 1,38,699 in EWS category, 4,90,275 in OBC, 39,959 and 1,22,845 in ST and SC categories respectively. The JEE Main session 2 registration is ongoing and the last date to apply is Feb 25, 2025.

Why is the number of students declining in JEE Mains at present?
Generally, we can observe that every successive year, the number of applicants appearing for the JEE Main exam decreases. Wondering how many students appear for JEE mains to the ratio of students getting a degree in PCM is relatively high, but the number of students appearing yearly needs to be higher.
The reason for this low appearance is summarised below:
- Parental Role: Early on, there was a lot of parental pressure for children to graduate in engineering, but now, since time has changed, most parents have realised that pursuing engineering is not a single option. Other job opportunities also pay exceptionally well.
- Internet Access: With Internet access, the generation has understood the wide range of options available from academics. Students are going for non-traditional job opportunities to make a career that is well-appreciated, recognised and paid.
- Growth of Private Colleges: The increase in private colleges has increased, and the Number of applicants for JEE Main has decreased, but the number of candidates opting for 10 VITEEE has increased due to the outperforming performance of these universities in comparison to IITs and NITs
