Most NLU placements take place in April-May each year. National Law Universities are India's most sought-after law colleges. According to the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), besides teaching academic and research resources, graduate outcomes, including internships and average salaries, are among the critical metric classifications. National Law Universities continue to dominate India’s legal education landscape, not only for academic rigour but also for their impressive placement records. Conducted primarily in April and May, NLU placements attract the country’s leading law firms, companies, PSUs, and government organizations. With NIRF placing strong emphasis on graduate outcomes such as internships, job roles, and average salaries, NLUs consistently stand out as the most trusted institutions for legal career growth.

NLU Placements Procedure

Usually, NLU placements are held in April-May every year. Employers visit law college campuses and shortlist applicants based on their academic records and legal skills. The NLUs have a “Recruitment Office” or “Recruitment Committee” that manages the entire placement process on campus.

The most important criterion that candidates must fulfill is to score well in the semester exams to increase their chances of being admitted. There are two types of placements. NLU's recruitment and placement process include:

Zero-Day NLU Placements

The zero-day internship takes place in the 4th year of the LLB program and is the most important. This is because all the big companies and other employers have no positions. Since students have not completed college, this is also known as a pre-placement offer (PPO).

Prior Year NLU Placements

Students who have not been placed in a zero-day internship or are not participating for any reason may participate in the placement made the previous year.

NLU Placement Report

The NLU placements report is a record of the placements provided by the NLUs to their students in the final year or before the final year. Below mentioned is the data from previous years of NLU placements.

NLU Placements: Recruiters and Job Profiles

NLU graduates also choose alternative career paths such as public service, court service, education, litigation attorneys, legislative decision-makers, and founding their own corporate law firms. and court clerks., etc. Such a group of students either do not participate in NLU placements or do not accept the offer of a placement. Placement is organized by course, i.e., for undergraduate and graduate students. About 75% of the students in the total enrollment of the batch participate in the NLU placements, every year.
