The West Bengali government founded MAKAUT, a public state university, in 2000. A total of 15 courses are offered by MAUKAT, of which 2 are undergraduate courses, 12 are graduate programmes, and 1 is a PhD programme.
The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) awarded the institution a grade of "B++" for accreditation, and the University Grants Commission recognised it (UGC). In the engineering and architecture categories of the NIRF Ranking 2022, MAUKAT achieved rankings of 20 and 70, respectively.
