Bachche Bole Moriya 2025 marked 8 years of eco-friendly Ganesh Chaturthi in Vadodara, with students leading a nationwide movement for sustainability and responsible celebrations.
The 8th edition of Bachche Bole Moriya brought a refreshing wave of sustainability to Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in Vadodara. Held at New Era Senior Secondary School and Anand Vidya Vihar School, the campaign was organised by Chhatra Sansad India in collaboration with the Vadodara Police. What began in 2018 as a small initiative to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi responsibly has today evolved into one of India’s most recognised eco-conscious festive movements.
This year, students took the lead by crafting and distributing over 250 eco-friendly Ganesh idols. These idols were presented to Ganesh pandals across Vadodara and to every police station in the city. As part of the initiative, children also visited police stations to perform Aartis with officers, strengthening bonds of trust and shared values between citizens and law enforcement. To further encourage responsible celebrations, Eco-Champion Awards were presented to 50 outstanding eco-friendly pandals, honouring their blend of devotion and sustainability.
Since its inception, Bachche Bole Moriya has reshaped the way urban India celebrates Ganesh Chaturthi. The campaign has inspired nearly 80% of households in cities like Vadodara, Surat, Ahmedabad, Anand, Mumbai, Pune, and Nagpur to adopt eco-friendly idols. Over 50,000 students have been mobilised across schools to craft sustainable idols, transforming classrooms into centres of environmental responsibility. Through partnerships with police departments, temples, and pandals, the initiative has expanded its reach, becoming a youth-led environmental movement that continues to make headlines in both regional and national media.
The 2025 event was inaugurated by Shri Narsimha Komar, Police Commissioner of Vadodara, who praised the campaign, stating, “This campaign is a shining example of how students and police together can shape a more conscious society. When children create eco-friendly idols and share them with our police stations, it builds a bridge of trust and reminds us that devotion must walk hand in hand with responsibility.”
Other dignitaries echoed their support for the initiative:
-
Adv. Kunal Sharma, Founder-President, Chhatra Sansad India, reflected, “When we started Bachche Bole Moriya in 2018, the vision was simple: if children celebrate responsibly, society will follow. Today, after 8 years, we see eco-friendly Ganesh idols in most households across major cities. This is not just a campaign, it is a movement of young leaders rewriting how India celebrates its festivals.”
-
Dr. Geetika Madan Patel, Managing Trustee – New Era Senior Secondary School and Anand Vidya Vihar, emphasised, “By creating eco-friendly idols and taking them to police stations, children are teaching society how to respect nature, strengthen bonds, and celebrate responsibly.”
-
Ms. Poornima Menon, Principal of Anand Vidya Vihar, noted, “When children take the lead in creating eco-friendly idols, they are learning values of responsibility while teaching society the importance of respecting traditions alongside nature.”
-
Mrs. Leena Nair, Principal of New Era Senior Secondary School, added, “This campaign gives our students the opportunity to practice sustainability in action, shaping them into conscious, compassionate, and responsible citizens.”
Looking ahead, Bachche Bole Moriya aims to expand its reach across more states and cities in India. The campaign plans to integrate environmental awareness into school programs while fostering deeper civic partnerships between students, citizens, and the police.
As Vadodara’s children welcomed Lord Ganesha this year, their collective voice carried a powerful national message:
“Protect faith. Protect nature. Celebrate responsibly.”
