How to Apply for CAT Exam Online? Step-by-step instructions

Read this article to know step-by-step instructions to apply online for CAT Exam. It generally consists of three steps: Registration, Form filling and payment.

To appear in the CAT Exam first, you must know how to apply for the CAT Exam online. Next, you need to fill up the application form. The application form will be available soon on the official website www.iimcat.ac.in. There are three major steps to fill the application form, and they are: registering on the official website, filling the application form, and fee.

How to Apply for CAT Exam Online?

To apply for the CAT exam, you need to follow every step carefully mentioned here. The first step in the CAT application starts with Candidate Registration.

Go to the official website of iimcat.ac.in
On the right-hand side of the screen, you will see tabs for CAT registration.
If you are a fresh applicant, click on New Candidate Registration.
If you are already a registered user, click on Registered Candidate Login.

Step 1: New Candidate Registration

After you click on New Candidate Registration, you will be directed to that page. Fill in the required details for registration, as per the following fields:

Name of the new candidate	Enter your name (as in 10/SSC certificate)
Date of Birth of the new candidate	Enter your date of birth in DD/MM/YYYY format, or select the date from the calendar box
Email ID of the candidate	Enter your email id, then re-enter your email id for confirmation
Country/Nationality of the applicant	Enter/Select your country
Mobile number	Enter your active mobile number. All the important updates regarding the CAT examination will be updated to you via SMS
Generate OTP	Then click on Generate OTP. Enter the OTP that you received on our mobile phone in the box provided
Captcha	Enter the scrambled character that appears on your screen in the box provided
I Agree	Click on "I Agree" to confirm that your provided details are correct
Registration Successful	After New candidate registration is done. You will receive an SMS where you will get your User ID and Password to continue further with the application

Step 2: Already Registered User

If you are an already registered user then you can proceed to fill up the application form by clicking on the registered candidate login.

Enter your User ID and Password that you received via SMS on the login page. Then, proceed further following the steps mentioned below:

Click on the 'Go to Application' form.
A new window will open where you have to fill in the required details for the application.

The application process is divided into 6 different sections. Each of the sections has to be completely filled for a successful candidate application. These 6 sections include personal details, academics, work experience, programs, test city, and payment.

Note: Every field marked with ' * ' is a mandatory field and has to be filled up to continue to the next sections.

Step 3: CAT Personal Details

Here you will find fields in which the personal details are to be filled. These personal details include:

Aadhar card
A passport-sized color photograph with a white background photo that is not more than 6 months old from the date of application. Your face must be clearly visible. Your photo must be from head to shoulder, the dimension of the photograph has to be 30mmx45mm.
A scanned copy of your signature has to be uploaded. The dimensions must be 80mmx35mm only.
Both the scanned documents should only be in .jpg, .jpeg format, with white background, and must not exceed 150 PPI (pixels per inch), the file size should not be more than 80kb.
The same photograph has to be affixed to the admit card as well.

Step 4: CAT Academic Qualification

Here you have to fill in your details regarding your academic qualification, which includes:

12^th standard equivalent details	It includes details like the name of the board, year of passing, maximum marks, and aggregate percentage
Bachelor's degree/ Diploma	Fill in the required details marked with ' * ' fields
Master's Degree	Fill in all the required details marked with ' * ' fields as well

Step 5: CAT Work Experience

Fill in the required details regarding your work experience. Keep in mind that you have to fill in the work experience details only if you have worked full-time (paid). Part-time work experience details are not considered.

Select your area of experience from the given list.
Enter the duration of work as a full-time employee
Check the details carefully.
Click on 'Save and Continue' to proceed to the next section of the application form.

Step 6: Select your CAT Programme

Here you need to select your preferred college for your future MBA programme. Then select the city where you want to appear for an interview in decreasing order of preference, in case if you are short-listed after the results.

Select your preferred college where you want to pursue your programme.
Interview City- Select your interview city in decreasing order of preference as per your convenience.

Step 7: Select CAT Test City

CAT examination is conducted in over 156 cities throughout India. You are expected to select 4 cities, so in case if the first preferred city is not allocated to you for valid reasons the exam authority will allocate the CAT exam centre city in the next level of preference.

Step 8: CAT Preview Application Form

Preview the application form carefully before the final submission. Check all the details carefully. Then proceed to the payment window.

Step 9: CAT Payment Window

Here you can pay your application fees for CAT Application Form. Payment can be done in several ways including:

Debit Card Payment	You can make payments through your debit card. Fill in the mandatory details. Enter the OTP and proceed to make the payment further
Credit Card Payment	You can also make a payment using a credit card by filling up the required details. Then proceed further to make payment
Debit Card + ATM Pin	This option is available if your phone number is not linked to your bank account
Internet Banking	If you have internet banking enabled in your account, you can use this option as well for payment

Process

Select the most suitable option for yourself.
Click on the Make Payment option to complete the payment procedure. After the payment is made, a dialogue box will appear on the screen showing 'Your Application Submitted Successfully'.
Click on 'Download Application PDF' to save a soft copy of the application form in your system.

Fill the CAT application form carefully. Keep all the important documents required for the application handy. Use a valid and active email id and phone number for the registration as all further communication will take place on that mobile number.
