CBSE Private Candidate Form 2026: Eligibility, Application Form Details

The CBSE private student form 2026 is for students who are unable to obtain the required passing marks in the CBSE class 10/12 exams. Additionally, the private candidate form will also be open for those who wish to sit for the exams as private candidates to improve their scores, or those willing to take an extra subject.

Only students who have signed up for the CBSE Board exam will be allowed to fill out the CBSE private candidate application form for 2026. The application process will start in October 2025 (tentative). The last date to apply for admission as a private candidate is expected to be October 16, 2025 (without a late fee). Note that the CBSE class 12 date sheet 2026 is available on the official website.

Private Candidate Form 2026 Eligibility Criteria

As mentioned earlier, the CBSE private candidate form 2026 is only available for those falling under the categories of 'Failed' or 'Compartment'. Similarly, there are other important factors to be noted about the eligibility criteria and information on who can appear for it, which has been covered in detail in the sections given below. 

CBSE Private Candidate Form 2026: Eligibility for Class 10

CBSE class 10 students who have fallen into the category of 'Fail' in any year between 2019 to 2025 are eligible to fill out the private candidate form for CBSE. Additionally, students who fall under the following categories can fill out the form and appear for the test for class 10. 

• Students declared as ‘Essential Repeat’ in 2025.
• Students falling under the ‘Compartment’ category in the Main-2025 exams.
• Students under the ‘Compartment’ category in August or September 2025.
• Students declared as ‘Fail’ in any year from 2019 to 2025.
• Passed out students of 2025 who intend to improve their scores in 1 or more subjects.
• Passed out students of 2024/2025 who want to take an additional subject exam.
• A female candidate and a Delhi resident who passed 10th grade or equivalent from a recognised board in 2023 or before that.
• Candidates with physical disabilities who are Delhi residents and have reached the age of enrolling in class 10 can apply.
• Students who are studying in the Patrachar Vidyalaya of Delhi are eligible.

CBSE Private Candidate Form 2026: Eligibility for Class 12

CBSE class 12 students whose results fall into the category of 'Essential Repeat' in 2025 are eligible to fill out the CBSE private candidate form. Additionally, students who fall under the following categories can fill out the form and appear for the test for class 12. 

• Students declared as ‘Essential Repeat’ in 2025.
• Students under the ‘Compartment’ category in the Main-2025 exams.
• Students falling under the ‘Compartment’ category in August or September 2025.
• Students declared as ‘Fail’ in any year from 2019 to 2025.
• Students of 2025 who wish to improve their grades in 1 or more subjects passed out.
• Passed out students of 2023/2025 who want to take an additional subject exam.
• A female candidate and a Delhi resident who cleared the 11th standard or equivalent from a recognised board in 2023 or before are eligible.
• Physically disabled candidates residing in Delhi who passed 11th grade or equivalent from a recognised board in 2023 or before that can apply.
• Candidates who are studying in the Patrachar Vidyalaya of Delhi can fill out the form.

CBSE Private Candidate Form 2026 Fee Structure

You need to pay an exam fee, practical fee, and late fee (if applicable) for the CBSE private candidate form 2026. Instructions to Fill out the Private Candidate Form 2026

The instructions have been divided broadly into 3 categories: Fail/Compartment/Repeat/Improvement, New Female Candidates/Physically Handicapped, and for Additional Subjects. Check out the category-wise instructions to fill out the CBSE private candidate application form. 

Category 1: Fail/Compartment/ Repeat/Improvement

Students falling under the category of 'Fail/Compartment/Repeat/Improvement' have to enter their roll number, and centre number, and follow all the required instructions mentioned in the pointers below.

• For students who appeared for their board exams in 2025, the system will generate their details automatically. 
• Students who took the exams in 2023 or earlier need to fill in all the necessary details in the CBSE private candidate form.
• Candidates must ensure they enter relevant details carefully, like the roll number, centre number, etc.
• The project/practical/internal assessment scores obtained by the student in the 2025 exams will be carried forward. For years before 2025, the authorities will award pro rata marks in the respective sections.

Category 2: New Female Candidates/ Physically Handicapped

Students falling under the category of 'New Female Candidates/Physically Handicapped' have to choose the subjects from the drop-down menu and follow all the required instructions mentioned in the pointers below.

• Students must choose subjects only from the drop-down menu. 
• The calculation of scores obtained in theory for subjects with an internal assessment component will be out of 100. These marks will be added to the marks attained in the theory component.

Category 3: Additional Subjects

Students appearing for the category of 'Additional Subjects' have to choose any one subject that they did not opt for earlier and follow all the required instructions mentioned in the pointers below.

• Students can choose any one subject that they did not take earlier.
• The authorities will calculate the marks secured in theory out of 100 for subjects having an internal evaluation component. Further, they will add these marks to the marks obtained in theory.

Steps to Fill the CBSE Private Candidate Form 2026

Students applying through the CBSE private form must visit the official website at cbse.nic.in for all the details. Once all the steps are completed, students will also be required to pay the required fee to appear for the test. 

Follow these steps:

• Step 1: Go to the official website of CBSE at cbse.nic.in.
• Step 2: Click on the 'CBSE Class 10/12 Private Exam 2026 Notification' link. You must read the notification carefully.
• Step 3: Fill out the CBSE private candidate form by clicking on the link given on the official website.
• Step 4: Submit all the valid details and upload the required documents and certificates.
• Step 5: Pay the required fee and submit the private candidate form for CBSE.
• Step 6: The final step is to download the form for future reference.
