Assam Edu Minister Confirms, Assam TET Exam to Not Be Held for the Next 2 Years

Assam TET Exam: Recently, the Education minister of Assam, Ranoj Pegu, announced that the state government had canceled the Assam Teachers Eligibility Test for the next two years. Further, the decision to not hold the Assam TET exam was considered because there are a sufficient number of TET-qualified candidates in the state.

Per the official statement by Pegu, "Assam TET exam will not be held for lower primary (LP) or upper primary (UP) for the next two years. The vacancies can be filled by the candidates who have already cleared the TET exam," 

Moreover, he said that the state government will now accept CTET scores to recruit teachers in government schools. Therefore, he added that the applicants who cleared the Assam DElEd exam could appear in the CTET exam instead of Assam TET in the next two years.

In response to the announcement, some of the state students’ group requested the government to re-think the decision as many aspirants have been preparing for the Assam TET exam.

Furthermore, the minister informed the state assembly that single teachers run about 2,900 schools. He added that two teachers run each of 15,161 educational institutes, and 8,207 are three-teacher schools. All these were primary schools, and there were no secondary-level educational institutes in these categories.
