Prof.Sarit Das, Institute Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras Chennai joins as an Advisor with NIMS University with special focus to revamp the Engineering Department.
Professor Sarit K. Das is an Institute Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai. He is the first resident of the V. Balakrishnan Chair Professor and also a Professor of Mechanical Engineering. He is the first Director of the Indian Institute of Technology Ropar. He is also an ex Dean (Academic Research) of IIT Madras.
Prof. Das studied at Jadavpur University, NIT Rourkela, and Helmut Schmidt University Hamburg, Germany. The research group of Prof. Sarit K. Das works with thermo fluidics in various fields such as heat and mass transfer in industrial equipment such as heat exchangers and fuel cells, and multiphase conversion of current and energy.
Water supply and heat for PEM fuel cells battery management are two active areas in this direction. The group focuses specifically on processes at the Micro-Nano scale and is known to be one of the main nanofluid groups in the world.
Another focus area of this group is Bio-Microfluidics, specifically designed to mimic human physiological conditions. The focus is on its use in medical diagnosis, drug delivery platforms,s and physiological and pathological conditions related to cardiovascular diseases and cancer. The group also started working with thermal desalination technologies such as Multi- lightning, and HDH (Humidification and Dehumidification) systems.
Prof. Das is a member of the National Academy of Sciences (NASI) and the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE). He visited Peabody Professor at MIT, Cambridge, and Visiting Professor at Lund University, Swedish.
He has also been awarded the prestigious India Citation Awards 2012 by Thomson Reuters. He has published more than 350 scientific articles and five Books. He is the most popular mechanical engineer in the country. Prof. Das is a member of the board of directors of heat transfer technology, at Taylor and Francis Publishers, formerly Chief Editor of the International Journal of Micro-Nano-Scale Transport, Multi-Science Publishing Co. Ltd, United Kingdom, and a former member of the editorial board of the International Review Heat Exchangers, Edward Publishers, USA. In 2021, he also received a Lifetime Achievement Research Award from IIT Madras.
