The Media Fest, organized by the Department of Journalism and mass communication at VGU, was unique in its form and content as it brought media students and professionals from the industry together with a view to making the students familiar with the rapidly changing media scenario in the country and around the world. During his address, VGU president Prof. Vijay Vir Singh underlined the importance of speech as enshrined in the Indian Constitution. However, he cautioned that this freedom was not absolute and had to be exercised keeping the national interest in mind.
In his address, VGU chairperson Dr. Lalit K Panwar expressed hope that such interactions would benefit students of mass media. In his discussion, chief guest and veteran journalist Rajesh Badal stated that today's scribes must prioritize the nation, as the media appears to have strayed from its goals.
In his address, veteran radio expert Mr. Viplove Gupte underscored the need for developing good writing skills and added that it was sad that today’s youth were only gunning for TV journalism. ‘’There is only one mantra for success in journalism, and that is to become a good writer,’’ he added.
VGU also launched its podcast channel, ‘V-Talks, on this occasion. The Podcast channel was inaugurated by Mr. Gupte. The podcast channel is also available on Spotify. Cash prizes were given to students from different colleges and universities. The students also asked questions of the experts, and their queries were answered by them.
VGU, in its efforts toward the holistic development of the students, organizes such interactive events at regular intervals. Such events would go a long way in helping media students gain insight into the profession's nuances and strike a balance between academia and the industry.
