Do IITs Accept JEE Main Scores for B.Tech Admission?
No, IITs do not accept JEE Main scores for B.Tech admission. You must clear JEE Advanced for an IIT seat. For B.Tech programs at IITs, admission is strictly through JEE Advanced.
To even appear in JEE Advanced, a student must first qualify JEE Main and be among the top 2.5 lakh candidates in JEE Main. The actual admission into IITs depends on the JEE Advanced rank, not JEE Main.
Conclusion
With over 1,500 participating colleges including NITs, IIITs, GFTIs, and select state and private universities, the exam opens diverse opportunities based on a candidate’s rank, category, and preferences.
While top institutes like NIT Warangal, NIT Trichy, IIIT Hyderabad, and BIT Mesra attract the highest-ranking candidates, newer NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs provide excellent alternatives for those with comparatively higher ranks. It is equally important to remember that IITs do not accept JEE Main scores for B.Tech admission, as they exclusively rely on JEE Advanced.
