The Gujarat State government has given the in-principle approval to six private universities and one autonomous university including PDEU to be tagged Centre of Excellence.
Ahmedabad: The seven universities including Pandit Deendayal Energy University have been accorded with the Centre of excellence tag by the government of Gujarat. With this new status, the universities will now be able to conduct admission on their own and determine their fee structure independently.
These Universities will be exempted from the purview of the fee regulatory committee. This in-principle decision to grant COE to these 7 universities was taken in a high-level meeting on Monday.
“The vice-chancellor of all the seven pretentious universities was present in the meeting chaired by the chief minister,” Said a source.
“The action plan will be formulated to ensure the creation of world-class infrastructure, high tech and student-friendly classrooms in the universities “ added the chief minister.
A source confirmed that “The heads of these seven institutes will meet within a week with Chudasama to prepare the action plan after studying India’s and the world’s top ten universities”.
Among these 7 institutes, Pandit Deen Dayal Energy University along with two others was conducting 50 % of the admissions independently, getting this tag will now allow them to take full charge of the admission process.
The proposal by the seven universities has been considered for the past one-and-a-half-year by the higher authorities” added the source. On Monday, the state government finally decided to give a nod to grant them COE and conduct the admission process for the year 2021-22.
