What is NTA Score?

NTA score is a positional rank or percentile score of a candidate who appeared for the JEE Main exam. The score calculation is based on the performance of candidates who have appeared for the exam.

The process goes like this: the raw marks obtained from the session-wise test are normalised. The marks obtained are transferred into a 100-to-0 scale for each session. Then, the candidate's position on the scale is calculated by a simple percentile.

The normalised score is then calculated against the multi-session scores to get an NTA score.

For Example: Let us say that 100 candidates appeared for the JEE Main exam, including you. On the day of JEE Main result 2024, it is revealed that your percentile score is 99. It means that 98 candidates scored below you.

Is NTA Score and Percentile the Same?

NTA score signifies the percentage of marks scored by the applicants who appeared for the exam. In contrast, the JEE main percentile score indicates the percentage of candidates scoring equal to or below the target given percentile, which is determined after the normalisation process with the marks scored by the candidates.

Next, compiling the raw marks, the NTA utilises the percentile equivalence for the normalisation process (formula) across subjects - Physics, Chemistry, Maths (PCM) as well as total.

How to Calculate the NTA Score?

The percentile scores of the candidates are based on the examination performance. The raw marks scored by the candidates are converted into a scale range (100-0) per session of examinees.

The Percentile Score (JEE Main Percentile score) will be the "Normalised Score" (instead of the candidate's raw marks), which will be used for the preparation of the merit list.

It indicates the percentage marks of candidates scoring is EQUAL TO OR LESS (same or lower raw scores) than that of a particular session in that examination.
