SOF Girl Child Scholar Scheme (GCSS)

The main aim of this scheme is to provide financial assistance to girls from the economically weak background and funding amount of Rs 5000 will be provided for their education for the full year and the selection will be done by nominations done by SOF registered schools.

Eligibility

  • Any girl child recommended by the school registered under SOF
  • The recommended girl should be studying in classes from 2nd to 12th under SOF registered school
  • The girl should have possessed more than 60% aggregate score in previous class exams
  • The monthly income of the girl’s parents should be less than 15,000 Rs

How to apply for SOF GCSS Scholarship

  • The school registered under SOF may select a girl child as per the eligibility and send a proposal recommending her for consideration for GCSS.
  • The proposal for consideration should be duly signed by the school Principal / Head Master / Head Mistress only.  
  • The duly filled Proposal in the specified format (enclosed) along with the complete with all required attachments and a copy of her previous year’s report card duly certified by the principal should reach to ‘The National Office of Science Olympiad Foundation, 1st Floor, Plot no. 99, Sector - 44, Gurgaon (Haryana) India. Pin-122003 before the last date to apply.

Selection procedure for GCSS Scholarship

  • All proposals for consideration have to be received by The National Office of Science Olympiad Foundation will be evaluated by a Committee set up by SOF.
  • Qualifiers of GCSS will be notified individually and through respective schools registered under SOF.
  • The decision of the SOF Committee will be final and binding.

SOF Scholarship for Excellence in English (S.E.E)

The combined efforts of the Science Olympiad Foundation and the British Council, this scholarship is an endeavour to recognize and reward an excellent communication of the English language among students in Indian schools.

Eligibility

  • The student should be studying in classes from 1st to 10th in SOF registered school
  • Must hold a record of above 90% aggregate score annually in previous exams

How to apply for SOF S.E.E Scholarship

  • The students can apply from their respective schools which are registered under SOF.
  • The teacher can download the application form and it must be filled in a prescribed format

SOF Academic Excellence Scholarship (AES)

The main objective of the SOF AES exam is to provide overall academic development among students and will recognize the performance of students in various subjects.

The SOF AES winner, from each class, will be the student who obtains highest cumulative marks in any of the 4 Olympiad exams during the year. For IEO, NSO & IMO, marks obtained in the 2nd level Olympiad will be considered, whereas for NCO & IGKO, marks obtained in the 1st level will be considered. In case a student appears for 5 Olympiad exams, best of 4 Olympiad marks will be considered.

Under SOF AES exam, one student from each class, i.e from class 3 to class 10 from each state/zone will be selected for the SOF AES scholarship.8 winners will be selected from each state/zone. Thus from 20 zones, 160 winners will be selected.


How to participate in SOF?

The SOF is open to students on to class 1 to 12th and the registration forms of the exam are being sent to schools which are registered with SOF and the schools are supposed to fill out the registration form and send before the due date.


National Science Olympiad Exam Registration fee

The schools in India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan have to pay a registration fee of 125 rs(including GST) towards the cost of the examination and some schools may charge an additional fee of 25 rs per student for the remuneration of the teachers to teach and guide.No fees are collected from students with a major disability or for an Indian student with any of one of the parent died during serving the country during defence operations.

SOF Admit card for NSO exam

The steps to download the Admit card is given below

  1. Go to the site www.sofworld.org
  2. Select NSO
  3. Enter the roll number and it should be entered in the format as (School code-Class code-Rollno)
  4. Click “Download and print Admit Card”
  5. Admit card and guidelines will be generated and also it carries the details of venue and time of the exam.

National Cyber Olympiad (NCO) Exam

SOF NCO is conducted for two days and the schools may select the dates based upon their convenience and in addition each day they will be providing separate question paper and change of dates are not permitted.

NCO exam question paper format:

(i) The paper is an objective-type test scheduled for a duration of 60 minutes comprising 35 objective-type (Multiple Choice) questions for classes 1 to  4 and 50 objective-type (Multiple Choice) questions for classes 5 to class 12.

(ii) The question paper consists of three sections:

Section-1: Logical Reasoning

Section-2: Computers and Information Technology

Section-3: Achievers Section

(iii) There are separate question papers for each class.

(iv) The medium of the test in English.

(v) CBSE, ICSE/ISC and State Board syllabi are followed for setting the test papers.

(vi) The exam is conducted during school hours.

National Science Olympiad (NSO) Exam

This exam is conducted on a three-day basis for Level 1 and the schools may select the dates based upon their convenience and a separate question papers are issued for every day and the change of exam dates are not permitted.

NSO exam question paper format:

Level 1: The first level of the test is organized in the respective schools of the participants during school hours.

(i) The level 1 competition is an objective-type test of 60 minutes duration comprising 35 objective-type (Multiple Choice) questions for class 1 to class 4 and 50 objective-type (Multiple Choice) questions for class 5 to class 12.

(ii) The question paper consists of three sections:

For Class 1 to Class 10

Section-1: Logical Reasoning

Section-2: Science

Section-3: Achievers Section

For Class 11 and Class 12

Section-1: Physics/Chemistry

Section-2: Achievers Section

Section-3 : Mathematics/Biology

(iii) There are separate question papers for each class.

(iv) The medium of the test is in English.

(v) CBSE, ICSE/ISC and State Board syllabi are followed for setting the test papers.

(vi) The exam is conducted during school hours.

Level 2: Level 2 is conducted for students of class 3 to class 12. The qualifiers to second round would include the following:

Top 5% of candidates, class-wise, who appear in the 1st  level exam. In case of a tie of marks, due weightage to marks scored in different sections will be given. Each section is accorded separate weightage.

Top 25 rank holders class wise & Zone wise.

Class topper where at least 10 students from a class appear in the exam & scores 50% qualifying marks. In case registration is received section wise, top rank holder, irrespective of the section will qualify for the 2nd level. For section wise registrations, winner(s) of the gold medal may not necessarily qualify for the second level.

The winner of SOF AES will be awarded a scholarship amount of Rs 5000, a trophy and a citation

International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO) Exam

This exam is conducted on a two-day basis for Level 1 and the schools may select the dates based upon their convenience and a separate question papers are issued for every day and the change of exam dates are not permitted.

IMO exam question Paper Format:

The SOF International Mathematics Olympiad Exam is conducted at two levels:

Level 1: The first level of the test is organized in the respective schools of the participants during school hours.

(i) The level 1 competition is an objective-type test with a time duration of 60 minutes comprising 35 objective-type (Multiple Choice) questions for class 1 to class 4 and 50 objective-type (Multiple Choice) questions for class 5 to class 12.

(ii) The question paper consists of four sections:

Section-1: Logical Reasoning

Section-2: Mathematical Reasoning

Section-3: Everyday Mathematics

Section-4: Achievers Section

(iii) There are separate question papers for each class.

(iv) The medium of the test is in English.

(v) CBSE, ICSE/ISC and State Board syllabi are followed for setting the test papers.

(vi) The exam is conducted during school hours.

Level 2: level 2 is conducted for students of class 3 to class 12. The qualifiers to second round would include the following:

International English Olympiad (IEO) Exam

The SOF International English Olympiad Exam is conducted at two levels:

Level 1: The first level of the test is organized in the respective schools of the students during school hours.

(i) The level 1 competition is an objective-type test of 60 minutes duration comprising 35 objective-type (Multiple Choice) questions for class 1 to class 4 and 50 objective-type (Multiple Choice) questions for class 5 to class 12.

Section-1: Word & Structure Knowledge

Section-2: Reading

Section-3: Spoken & Written Expression

Section-4: Achievers Section

(iii) There are separate question papers for each class.

(iv) The medium of the test is in English.

(vi) The exam is conducted during school hours.

Level 2: level 2 is conducted for students of class 3 to class 12. The qualifiers to second round would include the following:

International Commerce Olympiad (ICO) Exam

International Commerce Olympiad Exam is conducted by Commerce Teacher’s Foundation (CTF) to offer the professional excellence of commerce teachers fraternity in the education world. The eligible candidates are 11th and 12th students studying Accountancy, Business studies etc. The SOF ICO exam is conducted on two dates. Each school may select a date for conducting the SOF ICO exam as per its convenience. Each date of exam has a separate question paper. Change of date for conducting SOF ICO exam is not permitted. SOF ICO is a single level exam.

ICO exam question  paper format

The test is organized in the respective schools of the participants during school hours.

(i) The Olympiad is a written objective-type test of 60 minutes duration comprising 50 objective-type (Multiple Choice) questions for class11 & class 12.

(ii) The question paper consists of four sections:

Section-1: Economics

Section-2: Business Studies

Section-3: Accountancy

Section-4: Achievers Section

(iii) There are separate question papers for each class.

(iv) The medium of the test is in English.

(v) CBSE, ICSE/ISC and State Board syllabi are followed for setting the test papers.

(vi) The exam is conducted during school hours.

International General Knowlege Olympiad (IGKO) Exam

This exam is conducted on a two-day basis and the schools may select the dates based upon their convenience and SOF IGKO exam is a single level exam.

IGKO exam question paper format:

The SOF IGKO exam is an objective-type test of 60 minutes duration comprising 35 objective-type (Multiple Choice) questions for class 1 to class 4 and 50 objective-type (Multiple Choice) questions for class 5 to class 10. The exam is conducted during school hours.

International Awards

  1. The number of awards for securing the first rank is 12 with each bagging Rs 50,000 + gold medal + Certificate of Outstanding performance
  2. The number of awards for securing the second rank is 12 with each winner bagging sum of Rs 25,000 + silver medal + Certificate of Outstanding performance
  3. The number of awards for securing the third rank is 12 with each winner bagging Rs 10,000 + bronze medal + Certificate of Outstanding performance
  4. For up to 9 students getting the same rank, the award amount will be distributed equally. In addition, each winner will be awarded medal in the applicable category and Certificate.
  5. In case more than 9 students get the same rank, in lieu of cash award each winner will be awarded gifts worth Rs. 1000/ + a medal in the applicable category and Certificate.

Zonal Level Awards

  1. 1st prize amounts to Rs. 5000/- each + Gold Medal + Certificate of Zonal Excellence for  240 candidates
  2. 2nd prize amounts to Rs. 2500/- each + Silver Medal + Certificate of Zonal Excellence for 240 candidates
  3. 3rd prize amounts to Rs. 1000/- each + Bronze Medal + Certificate of Zonal Excellence for 240 candidates
  4. 4th– 10th Gifts Worth Rs. 1000/- + Medal of Distinction + Certificate of Zonal Excellence for 1680 candidates
  5. 10th – 25th  Medal of Distinction + Certificate of Zonal Excellence for 3600 candidates

  8. In case more than 4 candidates get the same rank, in lieu of a cash award, each winner will be awarded gifts worth Rs. 1000/- + medal in the applicable category and Certificate.

School Level

Medals to Class Toppers:

  • Where 10 or more students from a class (including all sections) write an exam – the top three rank holders will be awarded a gold, silver and bronze medal respectively.
  • Where between 5 and 9 students from a class (including all sections) write an exam – the topper will be awarded a gold medal.
  • In addition to the above, for each section from a class, from where 25 or more students write an exam – the top three rank holders will be awarded a gold, silver and bronze medal respectively.

Students Performance Report (SPR) for each candidate:

  • Every student who appears in NCO, NSO, IEO, IMO and IGKO will be provided with a Student Performance Report (SPR). An SPR is a detailed analysis of how the student attempted in the NCO, NSO, IEO, IMO, IGKO exam.
  • The objective of SPR is to share with the student and her/his parents, analysis of student’s answers. This is expected to enable the student to understand her/his strengths and areas requiring improvement in absolute terms and also on a competitive scale consisting of lacs of students who appeared in the Olympiad.

The NSO results of Level 1 exam also offer the participants a detailed analysis of their performance in the form a Student Performance Report (SPR).  An SPR helps students and their parents/guardians assess their strengths and weaknesses. It has six sections that talk in detail about the various aspects of the participant’s performance.

  1. Section A consists of the candidate’s marks and rank achieved in School/City/Zone/International level.
  2. Section B provides a section-wise performance report of the candidate.
  3. Section C offers the correct answers to questions asked in the Olympiad exam, the answers given by the student and performance comparison of the student’s answers vs other students in the Zone and at the International level
  4. Section D provides a percentage score analysis of the student with a comparison with the Class, City, Zone and International level
  5. Section E offers a comparison of average marks analysis at the School, City, Zone and International level
  6. Section F is a comparison of the student’s performance in the Olympiad exams during the past 8 years.

NSO Exam results

The National Science Olympiad (NSO) organised by the Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) has registrations from a thousand applicants every year. A huge number of school students from around the country participate in the Olympiad in order to assess their academic growth. NSO offers the participating students an opportunity to compare themselves with other students and assess their own strengths and weaknesses. Students from classes 1 to 12th take part in this scientific-reasoning and logical-ability based exam every year. The top-performing students in the NSO results are also rewarded with cash prizes and medals. For the year 2018-19, the Level 1 exam of NSO took place in November and the Level 2 exam took place in the first week of February.

To check the NSO results through the SOF website, follow the steps mentioned below

  1. Visit the official website of SOF in order to check the result.
  2. Select the Olympiad as ‘SOF NSO’ from the drop-down menu.
  3. Enter your roll number.
  4. Provide the answer to a Math question to solve the Captcha.
  5. Click on ‘View Results’ to display the results of the Level 1 exam.
  6. Participants can also save the results for future reference by taking a print out of the results.
