The Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) is an educational foundation and a non-profit organization which was established way back in 1996, based in New Delhi, India. SOF basically promotes science, mathematics, general knowledge, introductory computer education, and English language skills among school children in India through various Olympiad examinations such as:

Olympiads

SOF organizes 6 olympiads each year. During the academic year, 2016 - 2018, 45000 schools from more than 1400 cities registered and millions of students appeared for the 6 Olympiad exam. Olympiads were conducted across 30 countries. About 5 lakh (500,000) students took part in each of the following Olympiads:

International General Knowledge Olympiad (IGKO)

IGKO is a one level exam. Students from class I-X may participate in the examination. This Olympiad was introduced in the academic session 2017-2018.

International General Knowledge Olympiad is a unique Olympiad which focuses on the importance of the day to day knowledge about current events happening all around in India and the world. Besides current affairs, the Olympiad has focused on improving knowledge about history, geography, science etc.

The Importance of IGKO exam is to check the general awareness of the students.

International English Olympiad (IEO)

The IEO used to be a single level exam each year, but since 2017-2018 it is being conducted on two levels. Students from class I-XII can participate in this Olympiad. It is conducted in partnership with the British Council.

National Science Olympiad (NSO)

The NSO is conducted on two levels each year. It was the first Olympiad to be conducted by SOF. It has been conducted since 1996. Students from class I-XII may participate in the examination. It is conducted in partnership with Techfest.

International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO)

The IMO is conducted on two levels each year. Students from class I-XII may participate in the examination.

International Company Secretaries Olympiad (ICSO)

The ICSO is a single level exam. Students from classes XI & XII may participate in the examination. It is conducted in partnership with ICSI.

National Cyber Olympiad (NCO)

The NCO is a single level exam. It was the second Olympiad to be conducted by SOF. It has been conducted since 2000. Students from class I-XII may participate in the examination. It is conducted in partnership with TCS iON, a branch of TCS.

National Cyber Olympiad Level-2 (NCO)

  • The NCO was formerly a two-level exam however since 2017-18, it has been abandoned.

International Sports Knowledge Olympiad (ISKO)

  • Conducted only once, during the 2016-2017 session. It was a single level exam conducted in partnership with Star Sports in which students of classes I-X could participate.

NSO Result

The NSO Result are declared usually after 8 weeks of the examination. The result is available on the official website of SOF. NSO result 2016 was declared 29th of December 2016 for level 1 and 10th of March 2017 for level 2. Thus we expect the result to be declared on the similar lines for the year 2017-18.

In case two or more students achieve the same rank, cash award in the applicable category will be distributed as under:

International Winners -

  • For up to 9 students getting the same rank, the award amount will be distributed equally. In addition, each winner will be awarded medal in the applicable category and Certificate.

  • In case more than 9 students get the same rank, in lieu of cash award each winner will be awarded gifts worth Rs. 1000/ + a medal in the applicable category and Certificate.

Zonal Winners -

  • For up to 4 students getting the same rank, the award amount will be distributed equally. In addition, each winner will be awarded a medal in the applicable category and Certificate.

  • In case more than 4 students get the same rank, in lieu of a cash award, each winner will be awarded gifts worth Rs. 1000/- + medal in the applicable category and Certificate.

At School Level

  • Medals to Class Toppers -
    • Where 10 or more students from a class (including all sections) write an exam – the top three rank holders will be awarded a gold, silver and bronze medal respectively.

    • Where between 5 and 9 students from a class (including all sections) write an exam – the topper will be awarded a gold medal.

    • In addition to the above, for each section from a class, from where 25 or more students write an exam – the top three rank holders will be awarded a gold, silver and bronze medal respectively.

  • Student Performance Report (SPR) for each participating student -

    • Every student who appears in NCO, NSO, IEO, IMO and IGKO will be provided with a Student Performance Report (SPR). An SPR is a detailed analysis of how the student attempted in the NCO, NSO, IEO, IMO, IGKO exam.

    • The objective of SPR is to share with the student and her/his parents, analysis of student’s answers. This is expected to enable the student to understand her/his strengths and areas requiring improvement in absolute terms and also on a competitive scale consisting of lacs of students who appeared in the Olympiad.
