 About The Oxford and Cambridge society of India scholarship (OCSI)

The Oxford and Cambridge Society of India Scholarships are part-cost awards for undergraduate, second undergraduate, graduate study and research in any subject available at the Universities of Cambridge and Oxford, UK.

The Oxford and Cambridge Society of India (OCSI) is a non-profitable alumni organization located in New Delhi, India. The scholarships offered by OCSI are not based on race, color, religion, disability, age (except for maximum age criterion), sex or ancestry.  Relatives of the Executive Committee of the Oxford and Cambridge Society of India are not eligible for consideration for these scholarships.

The Oxford and Cambridge Society of India (OCSI) is applicable for the following universities only - University of Cambridge, UK - University of Oxford, UK. The universities of Oxford and Cambridge have been on-demand destinations for Indian students for many years. The scholarships were initiated by the Society 50 years ago. 

The Oxford and Cambridge Society of India has been offering scholarships every year, but these are dependent on the annual generosity of a few donors. 

  • Some scholarships may be limited to one or the other university, or sometimes to specific colleges at the universities.
  • The number of awards - OCSI seeks to elect at least one OCSI Scholar annually.

Levels of study for which Scholarships are provided:

  • Research driving toward a Ph.D. degree
  • One-year post-graduate courses like M.Phil., LLM, BCL, etc.
  • Masters programmes of various durations based on taught and research like M.Sc., etc.
  • Second Bachelors degree as an Affiliated Student/Senior Status
  • Bachelors degree programme
 Details

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be an Indian National.
  • Must be a normal resident of India.
  • Must be not more than 30 years of age on 1 September of the year of application for the award.
  • Must be graduated from any Indian university if applying for a second undergraduate or for a postgraduate course or be from a school in India if applying for an undergraduate course.
  • Applicants who are expected to graduate in the year of the award are also eligible to apply for the awards.
  • Must have applied for and secured admission to study a full‐time course at the University of Cambridge or the University of Oxford.
  • Candidates are required to present proof of admission before granting of the scholarship, and proof of having taken up residence at Cambridge or Oxford before the scholarships funds would be released.
  • Must be admitted to the University of Cambridge or the University of Oxford through the University’s normal academic procedures.  OCSI cannot admit students or assist in this process. 
  • Close family members of the Executive committee of the Oxford and Cambridge Society of India are not eligible to participate in the scholarship. 
  • Candidates who are already having full outside support should not apply and those who receive such support after being selected are required to inform the OSCI, so that the scholarship award[s] may then be offered to the next-ranked candidate.
 Reward Description

OCSI 2019 Rewards Description:

  • The financial award of scholarships will be given through the Oxford and Cambridge Society of India:
    • OCSI scholarship[s] worth INR 300,000 (Rupees Four Lakh only) tenable at either the University of Cambridge or the University of Oxford. 
    • One scholarship worth INR 100,000 (Rupees One Lac only) tenable only at Emmanuel College, University of Cambridge.
    • One scholarship worth INR 100,000 (Rupees One Lac only) tenable only at St. Hilda's College, University of Oxford.
  • Other Benefits:
    • Financial award for scholarship. 
    • Letter of support from OCSI for other scholarship awarding bodies.
    • Assistance in quick education loan from an Indian financial institution, based on the OCSI Scholarship letter, with automatic loan qualification-status from a leading financial institution.
    • Complimentary life membership of the Oxford and Cambridge Society of India.
    • Mentoring, whereby a member of OCSI shall play the role of mentor and will support the OCSI during his/her stay at Oxford/Cambridge by giving appropriate guidance to the awardees.
    • Assistance from OCSI in returning to India and reintegrating in the professional environment of India

Kindly Note: At least one scholarship is given annually but the number and value of awards may vary per year.

 Application Process

OCSI 2019

OCSI 2019 Application Process:

  • Application forms for OCSI scholarships will be available on the website of the Society by February every year.
  • All completed applications must reach the Oxford and Cambridge Society of India by 15 May 2019.
  • The important dates are mentioned below:
    • Applications open: March 2019
    • Last date for submission of application forms: 15 May 2019
    • Short-listing of candidates for interview: Mid June 2019
    • Interviews: July 2019 in New Delhi
    • Announcement of Scholarship awards: July 2019
 Selection Process

OCSI 2019 Selection Process:

  • Scholarships are awarded on the basis of:
    • Candidate's academic excellence
    • A good fit between the Scholar and the University
    • Evidence of leadership potential and a commitment to improving the lives of others, particularly in India.
  • There is an expectation that OCSI Scholars will return to India in a reasonable time after completing their course of study at Cambridge or Oxford.
  • The announcement about the scholarship will be sent to the universities of Oxford and Cambridge, the British Council and a designated list of Indian colleges by February 2018.
  • The short-listed candidates shall be informed by May 15, 2018, and later called for interview.
  • The decision of the OCSI Scholarship Committee on the short-listing and selection of candidates shall be final. 
  • All short-listed candidates will be required to attend an interview with the OCSI scholarship committee in New Delhi, usually in or just before the first week of June.
  • The final award offer may be made to selected candidates within two weeks of the scholarship interviews being held.
  • No traveling charges will be paid to the candidates shortlisted for interview for coming to Delhi.
  • Award offers will normally be made to selected candidates by June 15, 2018.
