About Pre-Matric Scholarships Scheme for Minorities: 

  • Introduction: The Prime Ministers new programme was announced in the year 2006. The Pre-Matric scholarship scheme is for meritorious students from minority communities. The Pre-Matric Scholarships Scheme for Minorities encourages student from minority communities by lightening their financial burden. This scholarship aims at uplifting the socio-economic conditions of the minority communities. The Scholarship also provides empowerment through educating students.

  • Objective: Pre-Matric Scholarships Scheme is started for the empowerment through education and focuses on the development of social and economic conditions of minorities. This encourages children to complete their school education with the financial support. These Scholarships are given to class I to class X students who are studying in any government and selective private institutes in India.

  • Scholarship Distribution: Minority communities come under to get scholarships are Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Jain, and Zoroastrians. A total of 30 lakhs scholarships are distributed as Fresh Scholarships and  Renewal Scholarships. This scheme is applied only for the Indian girls and women. The scheme is being implemented/funded by the Ministry of Minority Affairs through the States/UT’s Administration. The selected students will receive admission fee, tuition fee, maintenance allowance for 10 months in an academic year.

Pre-Matric Scholarships Details


Pre-Matric Scholarships Eligibility:

  • Class 1 to 10 students is eligible to apply.
  • Students must have secured not less than 50% marks in the previous final exam.
  • The annual income of their parents/guardian from all sources should do not exceed INR 1 lakh.
  • The students should belong to the minority community (Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Jains and Zoroastrians/Parsis).


  • Maintainance allowance will be provided to hostellers and day scholars. 
  • The students should be regular in the classes.
  • If the students violate the school rules the scholarships may be suspended or canceled.
  • Scholarships will not be given more than two students in a family. 
  • The students are allowed to apply for renewal only if they have secured a minimum of 50% aggregate in final exams. 
  • If the information mentioned by the candidates are found to be false, there will be cancellation of the scholarship. 
 Reward Description

Pre-Matric Scholarships Rewards Description: 

  • Actual financial assistance will be provided for admission/tuition fee and maintenance allowance as given below subject to a maximum ceiling indicated against item concerned.
  • Maintainance allowance will be provided to both hostellers and day-scholars.


Rate of Scholarship

A rate of Scholarship Admission + Tuition Fee

  • For Class VI to X:
    • Admission Fee: Rs. 500 per annum
    • Tuition Fee: Rs. 350 per month. 

Maintenance Allowance

  • For Class I to V:
    • Rs. 100 per month for day scholar
  • For Class VI to X:
    • Rs. 600 per month for hosteller         
    • Rs. 100 per month for Day Scholar

Pre-Matric Scholarship Application Process: 

  • The scheme is implemented through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP).
  • It is mandatory for all students to apply online on the website i.e.

Documents Required:

  • An Income Certificate issued by Competent Authority in State/ Union Governments in respect of parent/ guardian.
  • Self-Certified Community Certificate/ Community Certificate in respect of parent/ guardian.
  • Aadhar Number/ Any Identification Proof.
  • Bank Account Number.

Application Form Last Date:

  • The last date for applying online is 30th September 2018.
 Selection Process

Pre-Matric Scholarship Selection Process: 

  • Fresh: The number of scholarship for minorities is fixed and limited. The preference is based on the poverty rather than rank. The applicant needs to submit an Income Certificate. In case of same income, the merit shall be based on the 'Date of Birth'. 

  • Renewal: There's no merit list for renewal cases. The preference is based on the poverty rather than rank. The applicant needs to submit an Income Certificate. Renewal applicant will get the scholarship if one has obtained 50% previous year’s examinations.
