The Azim Premji Foundation Fellowship Programme provides opportunities to understand how to change education in India. Fellows will attain this understanding through hands-on teaching experience, involving in educational knowledge and by directly participating in a wide range of activities designed to bring change.

Despite India having one of the largest and most complex school education systems in the world, there is shortage of talent to work with the Government education system. Joining the Azim Premji Foundation Fellowship Programme as a Fellow can help teachers teach better and enable children in our government schools to learn better.

There are 270 Fellows working across 6 cities and 1 union territory out of which 40% of the Fellows are women. Fellows will be posted in the interior districts of Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Telangana, and Uttarakhand.

The one - year Fellowship Programme is designed for people who have carried out exceptional work in their respective fields and are now interested in developing, teaching and learning in government schools. They are expected to lead a life which looks rough but very rewarding. Enthusiasts from various companies like Infosys, KPMG India, Wipro, Quess Corp. Ltd., Goldman Sachs, Cognizant Technologies, Jindal Steel & Power Limited, etc. have joined the Azim Premji Foundation Fellowship Programme. 

More than 84% of our Fellows have chosen to continue working with the Foundation in various important roles. While others have chosen to go out and create a network where they will interact with society and strive to bring social change.


Azim Premji Foundation Fellowship Eligibility Criteria:

Young and passionate people from a variety of backgrounds are welcomed. Individuals are eligible to apply if they have:

  • 4 to 10 years of exceptional work experience.
  • Excellent academic and professional track record. Exception on work experience criteria can be made for candidates who have studied in premier institutes.
  • A post-graduate degree (e.g. M.B.A, M.Sc., M.A) or a professional degree (e.g. B.Tech, B.E, LLB, CA).
  • Proficiency in English and any one of the local languages (Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu).
  • Maximum age for applying is 35 years.
  • Committed and diverse professionals across sectors who are willing to contribute to Government school education system are invited to apply.
 Reward Description

Azim Premji Foundation Fellowship Rewards:

  • Stipend: Rs. 35,000 per month. Statutory deductions will apply.  
  • Upon completion of the one-year Fellowship Programme, a certificate from Azim Premji Foundation will be awarded.
  • Fellows are provided with 15 days of leave per year on a pro-rata basis, which will be 1.25 days per month at the end of each month.
  • Hands-on teaching experience for 150 days at a Government school.
  • Mentorship by experienced members of the Foundation.
  • 1 week of accommodation will be provided.
  • Work Areas available during the Fellowship Program:
    • Contribute to designing publications and establishing external connects.
    • Participate in developing modules for Subject Knowledge and Leadership Development.
    • Understanding the ecosystem of a school, engaging with the teachers, community and education functionaries.
 Application Process

Azim Premji Foundation Fellowship

Azim Premji Fellowship Application Process:

  • Candidates can apply for the Fellowship programme through the Online Application Form.
  • His/Her CV should be attached along with the completed application form.
  • Candidates who have attempted the test on or before 2018 can reapply and those who have attended the interview process on or before 2017 can also apply.
  • On successful submission of the online application form, a reference number will be provided via an e-mail.
 Selection Process

Azim Premji Fellowship Selection Process:

The selection process for the Azim Premji Fellowship Programme takes place in 5 stages:

Stage 1: Online Application

  • Fill the Online Application Form and upload it along with the CV. Upon submission of the form, a reference number will be given for further communication. 

Stage 2: Screening

  • After screening the applications, shortlisted applicants will receive a phone call from a team member of the foundation.

Stage 3: Online Test

  • Post-screening call, if selected, the candidate will receive an admit card for the online test.
  • The duration of the test is 120 minutes.
  • The online test will cover socio-economic issues, geographical awareness, reading comprehension, descriptive writing, and analytical ability
  • The candidate should also send a Statement-of-Purpose(SOP) before the deadline provided.
  • The online test and SOP will be evaluated together.

Stage 4: Presentation and Interviews

  • Candidates who have cleared the online test and SOP will be invited for an interview.
  • During the personal interview, the candidates should be prepared to make a 10-15 minute presentation to the interview panel on any social issue that they are concerned about.

Stage 5: Offer

  • On successful completion of the process, the candidate will receive an offer letter via an e-mail and a hard copy at the time of joining.
  • The result of the personal interview will be out by the third week of January.
  • Commencement of the Fellowship Programme will be from the last week of March.
