Placements and Internships

1

There are no internship programs organized by UPTEC during the entire tenure of the course. There are no companies visiting the campus. Students from my batch applied for jobs after completing their course and got a package of 2.2 to 3 lakhs per annum. Since the degree of a distance course holds lesser value than a regular course degree, the expected package for an IT job right after graduation would not go beyond 3 lakhs per annum until you have any work experience with some brand.

College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities

4

As it is a distance course, the facility of hostels is not provided by the center. However, I observed that a lot of students from small towns around Lucknow came here for a graduation degree. They used to live in lodges near the center. The cost varies from 3k per month to 10k depending upon the facilities they provide. A decent PG in the range of 5-6k can be expected with all the basic requirements. There is no canteen at the center so students usually step out in order to grab something to snack. There is a restaurant adjacent to the Kapoorthala center where we used to go to have something during our break time. The quality of classrooms is average. Libraries have ample copies of books that are issued by most of the students. WiFi facility is not available inside the center for students. The washrooms are there on each floor. So in short, the college infrastructure is good.

Entrance Exams and Admissions

We need at least 60% of marks in (10+2) in order to be eligible for a distance course (in Bachelors of Computer Applications) from this university. Admissions open in April the second week till the end of July. The final year mark sheet is sufficient for the students to join along with their relieving letter. There are no entrance exams. UPTEC Computer Consultancy Limited has a tie-up with this university for this distance program. UPTEC has 4 centers in Lucknow which enroll students for this course.

Academics and Faculty

4.5

I only attended college in the first year. So attendance is not mandatory since it is a distance course. The faculty at UPTEC is amazing. They are experienced and are always there for the students. Classes begin at 8 am in the morning. Usually, they get over by 3 pm. Students are free to attend classes for only those subjects in which they face difficulty. Most of their staff is young so interaction becomes easy for students. Seminars are frequently conducted by the management for students who are facing difficulties in any particular topic or subject. I remember we used to discuss a new topic every day in our IT class which helped us enhance our knowledge. The centers are centrally air-conditioned and the classes have a whiteboard which is used by teachers when we are learning coding. Other than that, most of the education is imparted through projectors. There is a library in every center providing books free of cost for a period of 7 to 28 days. Anyone actually willing to build a career in the IT industry without investing lakhs in college fees can go for a distance program from UPTEC as the ultimate goal is to learn. Once we have a command over a particular language, the sky is the limit. I agree that the students cannot expect an on-campus placement but chances are still bright for students completing the course genuinely.

Fees and Scholarships

3.5

Swami Vivekanand Subharti University, [SVSU] Meerut Fee Structure. The fee for my course is Rs 26,000- Rs 28,000 per year.

Since the course is not regular, the actual college fees are somewhere around 10K per year. UPTEC charges 16-18K per annum additionally to conduct the exams in the same city and we do not have to go to Meerut where the university is. UPTEC also provides classes for each subject at their center. So in total, a student is supposed to 26-28k every year. The registration fees are 6k out of which 5k is refunded once a student completes the course. There are no scholarship programs so we cannot expect any relaxation in fees. Education loans are not available for this course. UPTEC also prepares the students for an A level course in computers without charging anything extra for it.

Clubs and Associations

3.5

There are no active clubs or societies in the college. Usually, the center is closed on most of the festivals so we really do not get to enjoy them with our friends. The center is decorated on almost every festival so it gives a good vibe when we step in as soon as it reopens after the festivals. Life, in general, is good I would say. The best part I liked about the center is that they are cool with the attendance of the students. Most of the students who opt for a distance program are unable to take out time for classes as they get busy with jobs or preparation for other competitive exams. If students are facing issues with any particular subject, they can come and attend only those classes without worrying about spending their whole day attending all of them. So my experience has been good as I started working after completing my board exams.
