Placements and Internships

4

The institution has ties with many IT and Manufacturing companies and unlike other Engineering Colleges, it provides engineering students with a wide variety of non-technical and non-engineering jobs. The average salary figures range from 2,50,000 to 4,50,000 rupees per year and the placement rate or percentage is almost constant for all batches. As far as internships, industry visits, and training are concerned, students will be having a separate subject for the same in their pre-final year, which carries a significant weighting for their final score. Comments about the institution are mostly positive among alumni.

Entrance Exams and Admissions

I completed my BTech in Electronics and Communications Engineering from Vels Institute of Science and Technology in 2019 June. At the time of my joining (2015), I was required to write an entrance test which was based on the High school syllabus of Maths and Science subjects. The university typically shortlists anyone who secures a minimum of 45 percent in the test. Students who are not shortlisted are also given admissions, however, the fee structure will vary accordingly to the score he/she has scored in the test.

Academics and Faculty

4

Classes typically start from 9 30 am in the morning and end at 4 pm in the evening. Saturdays and Sundays are mostly holidays, except for special reasons when students are asked to come to the institution on Saturdays. The faculty are very friendly and understanding since I had a good experience with all the teaching and non-teaching staff of my department. I would rate my overall experience in the institution a score of 8 out of 10.

Fees and Scholarships

3.5

VELS University, Chennai Fee Structure. The average fee structure for an Engineering department, per year, would be just above 1,00,000 Rupees. The scholarships are offered based on the students' cutoffs in their 12th std final exams and also based on a scholarship exam that the institution conducts. On average, almost 20 to 25 percent of the students avail scholarships ranging from 25 percent to 75 percent offers from the institution. Loans for the fees entirely depend on the student and the institution guides the students on the whereabouts of student loans that can be availed from reputed banks.

Clubs and Associations

4

All festivals are celebrated on the campus. The institution has many fests and cultural programs that encourage students to showcase their talents. Sports are given a very high priority there and many students who are studying there are associated with sports teams and clubs. Many cultural and departmental clubs are also there. My overall experience with the institution would be a solid 8 out of 10.

Entrance Exams & Admissions : The eligibility criteria for B.Tech ECE in 2015 was 170 cut off scores in the 12th public examinations. There are entrance exams for candidates who have to secured the required cut off scores, I did not have to take the exam since I had the minimum required cut off scores in my 12th exam. Typically cut off scores for engineering ranges between 170 to 185.
