Given the present day competitive job scenario, where it has become imperative for the students to possess not only sound academic knowledge but also, effective soft skills and the requisite mentoring, the Scottish Church College Placement Cell has successfully provided opportunities for employment to its outgoing students. Many students are selected in different companies & they join after completion of their graduation. Apart from this Placement Cell regularly organizes Seminars/Workshops/Grooming Sessions for the students to upgrade their skills & make them industry friendly. Average CTC for all departments included was about 2.42L for the last academic session. Students are also sent for pooled campus drives which are held in other colleges.

College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities

4.5

The college has five hostels for its students(2 for girls and 3 for boys), all of which are situated near the college. Moreover n number of PGs are available in its vicinity. The college has under its control, five hostels viz. the Lady Jane Dundas Hostel (for Girls), the Duff Hostel, the Wann Hostel, the Ogilivie Hostel and Students' Residence (for Girls) of which the Lady Jane Dundas Hostel and the Duff Hostel are primarily for Christian students. The hostel fees is Rs 35000 per year. Classrooms are huge, you get an emperor-like feel in the classrooms to be honest. The food provided in the canteen is hygenic, good and affordable for students easily. The library is huge, having what not! There are even journals preserved which have been written by the prominent alumni of the college, including Swami Vivekananda and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. The library has free wi-fi and a world of books! All types of reference guides, books for all semesters can be issued., though there are seperate departmental libraries as well.

Entrance Exams and Admissions

The eligibility criteria for the student includes that he/she should belong to one of the recognized boards of the State/ Central and should have passed in all subjects that'll be included in evaluation for the admission. For our department (i.e. Zoology) , there isn't any Entrance exam but yes, being one of the top 3 colleges offering science courses in Kolkata, and the oldest continuously running Christian liberal arts and sciences college in India- The cutoffs are high. For 2018 , the general cutoff for our Department was 91% ; OBC, SC,ST and Christian(including minority) varied anywhere between 85- 95% . For admission to the college , you have to apply online when the notification is released (generally by mid- May), on the official website- https://www.scottishchurch.ac.in/ . After the merit lists are released, you'll be called via SMS /E-mail. Next, you have to report to the college admission-cell on the notified date with your documents and provided all your documents are verified and marked, you'll be called when the classes for the semester start. NOTE: If you fail to report with all the documents asked, your name will be cancelled and the person next to you on the merit gets the seat in your place, hence it is important to be careful on that. The classes start by the first week of July for all semesters, before which there'll be an orientation and campus preview program, succeeding the FIRST ASSEMBLY.

Academics and Faculty

5

Classes commence from 10am- 4to 5pm on Monday till Friday; college closes at 2 pm on Saturdays and Sunday is a holiday. There are regular assignments and monthly presentations. Seminars are held for most departments once in 2 months and according to the CBCS system, semester-wise exams are held (June-July for even semesters, November-December for odd semesters). The College is the second oldest in North Calcutta and has produced numerous outstanding people, chief among them being Swami Vivekananda and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. The College has been awarded Grade A by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The college also enjoys the status of College with Potential for Excellence, a quality rating by the University Grants Commission. Media survey rates Scottish as one among the top fifty colleges in India. College life here is fun but disciplined. Most of the departments have extremely good faculty and mostly students who have a certain Calibre enter here so the atmosphere is pretty cool to be honest. The library is massive, try to strike a friendly cord with the librarians. Cheap store is great for most of your needs. The canteen is usually filled with college students and has a pretty chill ambience. The campus is very green and the remarkable contrast between historical architecture and new age additions is quite charming. The annual fest Caledonia is quite a spectacle and you also meet people from other colleges.

Fees and Scholarships

5

Our course fee per year is about INR 16,000- which is to be paid in 2 instalments in 2 semesters. Scottish church college provides many scholarship options for the students. You have to maintain a good record of scores in your semesters and there are scholarship options available that waive-off your entire fee. As many students eligible and recognized under the scholarship category are eligible for the scholarship and can avail them without much ado.

Clubs and Associations

4

There are separate clubs made in order to run the extracurricular activities. Every Tuesday there are two periods allotted especially for this. The sports ground is present though quite away from the college and sports day celebrated yearly. The labs are appreciable with the presence of all necessary equipment. The college fest - CALEDONIA , is one of the most popular and recognized college fests in West Bengal. There is a whole lot of fun on those days , and many famous singers and band performers/ actors are part of our fest every year. The sports day and other events organised include a wide range of programs, prizes and fun. The college has good social life and minimum political interference.

Entrance Exams & Admissions : Scottish Church College is being one of the top science colleges in Kolkata, has a pretty high cut off.  There is a web-based admission procedure, where we needed to apply putting in all the information requested including marks in the 12th standard. The merit list is put up, strictly based on merit, and candidates are called up for the admission. Some courses like Physics and English have their own entrance tests which need to be cleared to get admission into the honors degree course. Zoology is strictly based on merit and marks obtained in the 12th standard. In 2012, the cut off for unreserved candidates was 88 in Biology in the 12th standard. Christian candidates can also seek admission based on special Minority quota.
