The hostels provide 2 and 3 sharing rooms for students, with the option of AC and non AC rooms. Hostel fee for non AC rooms usually comes up to about 1.1 to 1.3 lakhs per year and, for AC rooms, 2 to 2.1 lakhs per year, inclusive of mess fee. The rooms are decent and are cleaned semi-regularly. The wifi speeds are unpredictable but usually decent early in the morning. The food served in the mess is not the best. The conditions are unhygienic and the food is usually not healthy either.

Due to the high cost of the AC rooms and the less than appealing mess food, most students opt to shift to rented apartments in the nearby area. Transport is affordable via the share auto service in Chennai.

Students applying for B. Tech in SRM University are required to sit for the entrance exam, SRMJEE. Students will be ranked based on their performance and can opt for a degree of their preference accordingly. Applicants are required to pass in Higher Secondary examination (10+2) with minimum 50% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry, and Maths. The admission process takes place in the SRM campus in Kattankulathur, Chennai.

Upon admission, students are divided into two batches, having different class timings, and are assigned a Faculty Advisor. Classes start from 8 a.m. and finish by 5 p.m. However, there are often a number of free slots in the middle and a lunch break. Each course will require students to take one surprise test and one assignment, each of which is worth 5 marks of the total grade.

Unlike most colleges, which conduct two exams each semester (mid-sem and end-sem), SRM conducts four exams each semester, Cycle test 1, 2 and 3 and End sem exam. This causes the schedule to be considerably hectic, and at certain points in the semester, students will have very little free time.

• SRM University, Chennai B.Tech Fee Structure. The course fee is about INR 3.5 lakhs per Year. Being a private college, SRM fee is slightly higher than some other colleges which are just as good.
• However, for students securing SRMJEE rank of 1 to 100, 100% of tuition and hostel fee is waived.
• For ranks 101 to 500, 100% tuition fee is waived.
• For ranks 501 to 1000, 75% tuition fee is waived.
• For ranks 1001 to 2000, 50% tuition fee is waived.
• Lastly, for ranks 2001 to 3000, 25% tuition fee is waived.
• Further scholarships are provided by the college based on the performance of the student, determined by their CGPA.

SRM has a lot of associations and clubs on campus, including official Mozilla and Google clubs, and several students created clubs as well. These clubs are an excellent way to meet others with similar interests and get in touch with seniors.

The two main annual fests conducted on campus are Milan, the National Level Cultural fest, lasting 5 days, and Aarush, the Technical fest. Both these fests are organized with extreme zeal and passion and are met with the same energy by the students. Students can join domains to help with organizing and management in the fest, or partake in any of the activities provided by each domain.

The campus itself is vast with plentiful greenery and a lot of quiet places to walk. Also, the are several basketball courts and football fields open to students.
