Entrance Exams and Admissions

To get admission in India’s one of the best university is not easy. There are various procedures to get admission, depending upon the course and your category : Merit Entrance Exam Sports Quota MERIT Step 1 - Fill the Centralised Form All the Bsc and BA courses such Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Psychology, Hindi, History, English, Geography etc. are based on Merit System. You are required to fill an centralised online application form where you have to select the courses you are interested in. Fill this very carefully. You cannot add courses lateron. Step 2 - Go- Grab your seat ! Once the cut off is out you can directly go to the college with all your documents (Original Marksheet, Certificate, etc.) and get secure your seat. Generally Du gives you 3 days for the process. Note : If you are changing your stream, there is a deduction of 2.5–5% depending upon the college. There are generally 7–8 cut offs for each college, although all the top colleges are filled by 2–3 lists. 2. Entrance Exam Entrance is conducted for courses such as Mass Communication, Jounalism, BMS (Bachelors in Management Studies), Bachelors in Bussiness Economics (BBE), etc. Step 1- Fill the forms There is a seperate form for Entrance Exams. There is mimimum eligibility to write the entrance exams, which is different for each course (45–70%). Step 2- Write the Entrance Exam Step 3- Attend the Counselling Once the cut off is announced, you will be given college accroding to your Rank. Carry all your original documents. 3. Sports Quota For all those with State and National Level Players with certificates, there is a direct admission without any Entrance or Percentage requirement. You just have to clear the trials. :D If you have National Level Certificate, some colleges might take you even without trials Fill the online form, there is also an offline registration but I think the online one is easier. In the form select the course(s) you are interested in. Also just for your information, you will not have to put your college preference yet. Now wait for the results and then wait for the cut off list. Make sure you are attentive on the day when cut offs are to be released. The site gets slow that time because of so many aspirants checking out the cut off, so be patient. You will have enough time to go through the list and make a choice. After you have gone through the cut off lists, see which all colleges you can apply to based on your score and corresponding cut off. Now comes a very important step, collect the following documents a) 10th class certificate b) transfer/migration/character certificate (take all that you received from your school) c) 12th marksheet available online d) 4-5 passport size photographs e) any other document/certificate received from your school while passing out, just to be safe. Now get photocopies of the following documents, atleast 3 sets. There is also one anti raging affidavit but don't worry you will find a lot of cyber cafes near the colleges to help you with this once you get their. Also not all colleges ask for it along with other docs, they give you some time. Now note down the address of the colleges that you want to target. Check for the routes, be sure of how much time it might take to reach there. Remember it's a first come first serve admission, so be very quick. Double check all the docs. When you reach the college you will be assigned a couple of forms to fill onspot, you might have to pay for it. Fill it and submit it. The person in charge will verify your docs and will see if you clear the cut off. Once cleared he/she will forward your application and you will be directed to pay the fee. This fee payment part may happen on the next day. One thing to note here is that your original documents will be kept by the college till the admission process is over in DU. So in case you qualify a better college in subsequent lists, you will have to go back to this college and cancel your admission to get your originals back. Fee will be refunded later. So once you have filled the form, paid the Fee, got the receipt it's done. Go visit the nearby hubs (satya niketan for South campus and kamla nagar for north campus) for this is where most of your time will be spent! P.s — if you are good at any extra curriculars like debate, dance, music, sports make sure you fill the ECA forms for good colleges (these forms are available on college website or can be taken from the college itself). The societies of these colleges will take your audition and if you impress them, they will take you irrespective of your percentage. Every college has ECA quota so do check this out! This is best to my knowlege from couple of years back when I went through all this, hope this helps! You can go and get the admission in the course you want to take up at the particular college upto 2–3 days of the initial release of cut off. Don’t forget to check the website of the DU college before going for admission since some colleges have their own criteria regarding admission and documents required. Same criteria is followed in all the college's of DU whether it's Miranda house or any other college .In B. A programme there are approx 200 seats and in most years the cut off list goes till 6 cut off.
