Placements and Internships

2.5

There is a placement cell in the college which remains quite active throughout the year. This cell makes sure that notices regarding internships and placement drives are well circulated in the campus. This year a number of companies like Amazon and Tommy Hilfiger were on the campus for hiring students. They offered a salary ofINR 15,000-INR 20,000 per month which isn't bad for a fresh graduate. However, only a few, say 10% students got hired for these companies. The rest of the students had to settle for the call center job offers.

College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities

2

There are three 5 blocks in the hostel. The hostel fee for a year is rupees INR70,000. The newly built wings are really good. These two wings are for the first and second-year students. The rest of the blocks are in a pathetic condition. The food, however, is quite good. Hostelers are also given snacks and desserts. There is a Rishi Vatika meant only for hostlers. The PGs near the college charge a rent of rupees INR 7000 which includes food and electricity as well. The PGs without food charge rupees INR 5000 per month. The college canteen is small, overpriced and served bad food. The rest of the shops for eatables are quite good. There are a juice corner and a Nescafe booth as well. There is a stationery shop. The classrooms are well lit and spacious. The labs are the best part of the infrastructure. They are very well equipped. The library is a huge disappointment.

Entrance Exams and Admissions

I opted for the course BA and there was no entrance test. The admissions were purely merit-based. Since I had scored 86% in my twelfth board exams, I easily got admission in the college. The cut-off for BA was 60% in any stream. The admission process was quite simple.

Academics and Faculty

2.5

I was given the timetable at the beginning of each session. The duration of one lecture is of 45 minutes. We had to be regular in order to obtain the minimum required attendance i.e. 75%. Also, we submitted many assignments and projects for each semester. We also gave many presentations. These add to our internal assessment. The teachers in our college are well qualified. They're all experts in their fields or subjects. The teaching method, however, is not that good. Some teachers failed to complete the syllabus on time. So no time was left for revisions. The senior teachers in the college are way too strict. The younger ones are more dedicated. The college has a very weird rule that once you enter the college, you cannot exit before 12 noon. Also, no student is allowed in the college after 12. This is very inconvenient. My overall experience wasn't really good.

Fees and Scholarships

2

The fee structure for the course BA is as follows. We paid  INR 13,000 for a year. This does not include the examination fee. An amount of INR 1500 rupees is to be paid for each semester as the examination fee. Also, you have to pay an extra amount of rupees  2000 if you opt for any Add-on course like Interior Designing, Mass Communication & Journalism, Fashion Designing etc. For the hostel, the fee for one year is rupees INR 70,000. Also, the prospectus that I bought for filling the form that came enclosed within it, cost me rupees INR 500. So, the fees are a bit high compared to other educational institutions in Chandigarh.

Clubs and Associations

3.5

There is a placement cell, a Rotaract club, and several other societies. The literary society of the college is called 'Mukhtalif' and it holds many poetry slams. There is always one or the other event going on in the college. Many workshops and seminars are held in the Gymnasium Hall. The one fest that is the most awaited by students is the Meraki. This fest remains the talk of the town for quite a while. Since it is an Anglo Vedic institution.
