Sastra has a rich cluster of companies and MNCs visiting for campus placements. Companies right from the tech giant Microsoft to that of classy Rockwell Collins visit each year. The highest CTC was offered this year by Amazon which is around INR 28 lakhs P.A. and the second highest being PayPal which offered INR 24 lakhs P.A.
Students get lots of opportunities to do an internship or coursework abroad.
Sastra has amazing MOU'S (memorandum of understanding) with various national and international organizations including the MIT-Harvard school of medicine and the Georgia Tech. The national counterparts include ISRO, DRDO, CSIR etc., but extremely difficult to crack and get into.
The ACRS (accelerated course registration system) at Sastra allows students to study the topics which will be covered in the 4th year in the subsequent years one at a time which gives ample time for students to intern or do a project somewhere abroad.
The infrastructure is really good, with the gigantic Vishwakarma Joth hosting the facilities for most courses, Anusandan Kendra spices the entire infrastructure of the campus.
The ASK 1 and ASK 2 together combined host more than 80 highly sophisticated research labs for postgraduate research.
There is a gym for students to use for free and a huge playground, a football field, an indoor and an outdoor basketball court, badminton courts and tennis courts and what not!
There are a lot of on-campus eateries serving high-quality vegetarian food. There are hotspots on the campus and probably the best hangout spots on campus.
Sastra has 18 teraflops of computing power. Sastra owns a private Microsoft cloud donated by Microsoft.
There are over 600 WiFi check-points on campus ensuring seamless WiFi facility at decent speeds.
The Saraswathi Sadan or the central library has a huge collection of books and journals. Sastra apparently spends 4 crores each year on subscription charges of international journals.
Opting to study at Sastra has so far been the best decision that I have ever taken. The campus is located in quite a remote location boasts a wonderful student crowd and has a strong diversity among the students. It is fairly competitive and is ranked the 25th best college to study engineering in India by the NIRF (national institutional ranking framework).
The application process was quite demanding. Applicants need to submit a proof of their high school degree completion. Basically, Sastra admits students through its counseling process which has two different streams. Stream 1 applicants will have to submit their jee-mains score along with their respective board exam scores. Based on those two scores, the weightage will be 70% board exam scores and 30% JEE MAIN score.
The competition is high when it comes to stream two as we will have to compete with the state board toppers. For aerospace engineering, the minimal score range for stream one will be around 90 marks in JEE MAIN and above 92% in board exams if you are a CBSE student and higher if you are a state board student. The relative comparison is done between scores and Sastra releases its official rank list for the counseling a week before the counseling.
The course kicks off with a three-day orientation program where all the procedures and stuff required will be conveyed to the students.
Sastra boasts off a 200 acre campus with various facilities. However, the hostel facilities are that not good given its mediocre student hostels and average mess food.
Streams such as computer science and mechanical engineering are extremely competitive. Sastra has its own empire especially when it comes to biotechnology. The biotech department can very well be compared with the biotech department of the IIT-madras in my opinion. With the gigantic Jiva Chaitanya boasting off several labs for undergrads, the Anusandan Kendra flaunts its advanced sophisticated labs for postgraduate research.
Anusandan Kendra also hosts several hi-tech facilities for various other departments such as ECE, EEE etc., the research facilities for departments such as aerospace engineering is being developed rapidly.
However, the working hours are a bit hectic as the coursework is pretty intense. It is pretty much 8 hours straight each day.
The quality of teaching has been pretty awesome so far. Some courses are extremely interesting whereas some are very boring.
The course fee is INR 55,000/- as per today's fee structure.
Hostel feel comes around INR 10,000/- per year.
Lots and lots of scholarships are given to able students by the management.
All those details will be conveyed during the orientation program at the beginning of the coursework.
Loans are not needed as the fees is relatively very reasonable and low. However if you wish to avail an educational loan, Sastra has tieups with 3 banks which will readily provide loans at low rates of interests. City union bank, Punjab National Bank, and Indian Overseas Bank situated within the campus.
Sastra's cultural team is hands down one of the best cultural teams in south India with a win streak of 18 times in a row in NIT-Trichy's Festember.
Name an activity and you will have a club for it. Sastra has its pristine English literary club and a super crazy photography club Sastra Fotohub.
Space club SEDS and physics club Celeritas for geeky nerds.
Studio and Insiders and Thandav for dance and drama enthusiasts and more.
Kuruksastra and Daksh, the official cultural and tech fests of the university are one of the largest in South India.
Sastra has been a blessing so far!
