Placements and Internships

2.5

Students are made to attend a compulsory Placement Training after their 6th sem. exams which are not competent to the industry standards so its best to improve one self in the field of aptitude & personality development from the 2nd year at least. The internship is not compulsory & if the help of teachers is obtained to secure one they suggest is for BSNL where learning is not much or relevant. But as seen at the time of placements if students take interest & search on the web, it helps them immensely during placements. Core companies for the branch are very few with high aggregate requirements & normal IT based companies do visit like Wipro, Cognizant, TCS, L&T who are the mass recruiters. It's important to not have any current back or year back to attend interviews with an aggregate of min 60% to qualify for placement. So literally for the sake emphasis is given to students who do meet these requirements even though their aptitude, skills & communication are great.

College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities

2

Located after Yelahanka on the way to Dodaballapur the college is located in a relatively remote location but now bustling with a lot of development. We enter to the straight road with a green & lush garden on either side. On the extreme left is the campus for BMS Schol of Architecture. The right host Civil, CS, IS, MAC & MBA departments. In the dead end is the is the main block that homes ECE, EEE & the Telecommunication departments. The campus also has a canteen which has mediocre food with a basketball court at the entrance. The parking is open & dusty so beware of that. The departments are well stafffed with adequate labs but being a VTU college the procedures are typical & strict so no room for feedback & improvements from the students. Hence bus facility is regular but no autos or other immediate forms of transportation. Sports department is equiped, but no coaching is given by the trainer so it is only a form of hobby or time pass. The football cum cricket ground was reduced to another building having come up & is not even levelled to play well forget competitively. Boys hostle is in campus with good facilities but very strict rules. Care seeems to be taken to prevent ragging but some forms do exist in the hostel. Bus facilities are present but will not cater to any departments timings & is full on the go so forget comfort. Being remotely located no places nearby to hang out like restaurants or eateries unless we head to yelahanka new town or NES which is atleast 3 km from the college.

Entrance Exams and Admissions

We can get into the college by CET or COMEDK UGET. They usually expect at least 60% in 12th for management seats, Ranks to get into TCE in CET is usually around 3k to 4k & COMEDK UGET up to 10k but it varies.

Academics and Faculty

2

Telecommunication is a branch similar to ECE with about 8 subjects in the total course that may vary but is a far off in terms of what it sounds like. While we choose the branch expecting to learn about currently advanced networking & cellular technologies but it's a far cry from that. THe VTU syllabus focuses on students to study the history & development of currently irrelevant networks like GSM, CDMA etc with dead end subjects like OS, RTS etc. The college caters to a typical study to get a degree & if you have aggregate then placement system so no emphasis on creativity, innovation self-development.

The faculty is qualified to teach but their lectures are usually not very engaging with a few incompetent to teach or explain in detail or off topic. Their exposure to current industry trends is very lacking hence help with projects is close to nothing & some do force students to choose topics that will favor their Ph.D. thesis.

Fees and Scholarships

2.5

Fees for CET with the college fees average up to around INR 50k per year. for COMEDK UGET is about INR 1.8L per year with college fees. Management for Telecomm is about INR 2.5L per year. Scholarships are rare & for a few that has some criteria to be met.

Clubs and Associations

2

Nothing exists that is active through out so whatever is present or show will be made to have or host events once a year with not much planning or organization. The fest held also is for the sake as the funds provided by the college is close to nothing & sponsorships are found by students but the college usually poses unreasonable restriction that drives most of them away. No sum or yearly trips. Our only outing is industrial visit to places like BSNL or ISRO with the latter having no relevance. Even the department fests held are completely organized by students.
