Placements and Internships

4

Internship
I worked as a junior android developer at SONIM Technologies. It was an unpaid internship, but was provided with a Letter of Internship.

Companies and Roles
One big advantage of PES IT Bangalore South Campus ( PESIT BSC ) is that they share placements with PES University ( previously known as PESIT WEST CAMPUS ). Most of the companies that are visisting as a part of the placement drives consider both campus students, except a few who stick only to the PES U students. And there are also companies that visit PESIT BSC separately.

Every academic year there are around 120 companies visiting PESIT BSC.

PESIT BSC classifies companies based on the CTC they offer, into 3 Tiers.
Tier 1 :
> 8L
Tier 2 : 4L > <8L
Tier 3 : < 4L

PESIT BSC has a great alumni network which is very much involved in conducting workshops on different new technologies and other personality development topics.

College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities

3.5

PESIT BSC has separate hostels for boys and girls.
Boys hostel is located in the campus of the college itself. It is a twelve story beautiful building with 8 rooms on each floor. Each room is triple sharing with separate beds, separate cupboards and an attached bathroom. There is a 24 hour pantry in the ground floor other than a canteen that serves really tasty food. A few of them complain about the quality of the food which is negligible. It also has the facility of WiFi connection but is often complained about its low speed.
Girls hostel has all the facilities as that of the boys hostel but is located off sarjapur road and is about 8km from the college campus. But has the bus facility to and from the girls hostel.
Both the hostels have a curfew of 6:30 pm.

There are a number of Paying Guest facilities that are available in a radius of 2km from college campus. Each of them are twin/triple/quadra sharing rooms/flats in apartments. They charge around 5000 INR which includes mess charges and WiFi.

College campus has 4 canteens that serves different cuisines( From south indian to chinese ) and each meal costs 30 INR on an average.

Every classroom has quality benches fitted with DLP projectors. Some classrooms and all the seminar halls are fitted with ACs and with a seating of 120.

College has a huge Library with all the required books. Every student is allowed to borrow 2 books for a week. It also has subscription to IEEE and other journals and technical paper publications.

Entrance Exams and Admissions

I got admitted to Information Science Engineering ( B.E ISE ) through KCET (  Karnataka Common Entrance Test ) under GM ( General Merit ) category.

KCET has mutiple rounds of online councelling ( 4 in the year 2013 ). My KCET rank was 12600 and had to wait till the 3rd extended round for getting a seat in B.E ISE in PESIT SOUTH CAMPUS ( previously called PESSE : PES School of Engineering ).

Cutoffs vary depending on the round of councelling.

Cutoffs for GM at the end of each round :
1st Round : 4500
2nd Round : 6700
3rd Round : 8900
3rd extended Round : 12600

Academics and Faculty

3.5

College starts at 8:00 AM and goes up till 3:30 and works only five days a week. We have off on saturdays unlike most colleges.
There are two breaks. First break between 10:15 AM and 10:45 AM and lunch break between 12:45 PM to 1:30 PM. Breaks are sufficient to grab a quick bite.

A semester has 3 Internal assessment tests ( IA ) and semester end exams ( both theory and Lab exams ). All 3 IAs are compulsory and best of those 3 are considered for IA marks.

Every classroom is well equiped with DLP Projectors and sufficiently big blackboards. Most teachers effectively use DLP projectors to explain concepts and blackboards to solve problems. All the Laboratories are maintained really well.

PESIT BSC has a balanced mixture of both theory and practical application of concepts and technology which helps in the holistic development of oneself.

Fees and Scholarships

3.5

Per year Course fee includes KCET fees and college related fees.

Total = 36000 ( KCET ) + 9600 ( college related fees ) = 45600 ( INR )
* This was in the year 2013 *

PESIT BSC has the least college related fees when compared to most engineering colleges in Bangalore.

There are scholarships only for students who belong to bbackward classes or students who are differently abled.

Procuring education loans depends on an individual.

Clubs and Associations

4

There are different clubs which cater to enthusiasts in different fields. All the clubs come under one big association called SHAPES.

There are weekly meets in each club and colleges allows clubs to participate in inter-college fests.

Entrance Exams & Admissions : I prepared for three exams, JEE Main, JEE Advanced and CET. PESIT was allotted to me in the first round of CET. Normally 12th graduates take the test for college admission. After getting allotted a seat, I went ahead and verified the documents at an assigned location by KEA and after a month or so paid my fees and completed other formalities. The cut offs vary every year depending on the flux of students taking this test.
